Three weeks ago, a special Earth Charter International (ECI) China Forum took place in Costa Rica with the purpose to enhance collaboration and linkages between the Earth Charter, the quest for an Ecological Civilization, and the efforts towards the Green Silk Road and China’s Practice in Sustainable Development. The Forum was co-hosted by Earth Charter International and ECI China and was sponsored by the Institute of Contemporary Social Services (China). It was the occasion to launch a new collaboration that is emerging between ECI and ECI China.

El 25 de noviembre pasado, tuvimos el agrado de lanzar en un seminario abierto, organizado en conjunto con la Oficina Multipaís de la UNESCO, una nueva publicación llamada “Guía de recomendaciones para el fortalecimiento curricular de la educación para el desarrollo sostenible mediante el abordaje Integral escolar.”

La guía, publicada por la Oficina Mutipaís de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Cultura (UNESCO) en San José, y de autoría de Alicia Jiménez-Elizondo, Centro Carta Tierra en Educación para el Desarrollo Sostenible en la Universidad de la Paz, y Geannina Herrera Blando, consultora, está dirigida a docentes de educación general básica, directivos y directivas escolares, curriculistas, asesores, formadores de formadores, hacedores de política a niveles nacionales y departamentales, y técnicos de los Ministerios de Educación, especialmente de la región Centroamericana.

El objetivo de la Guía es ser un instrumento que brinda conocimientos y recomendaciones para analizar el estado de la situación del centro educativo con respecto a la implementación de la EDS. Es, sin lugar a duda un recurso valioso para docentes y escuelas y nos sentimos muy orgullosas de participar en este proceso.

A few months ago, the Global Peace Initiative of Women (GPIW) organized an online conversation on “Designing Regenerative Cultures” with Daniel Christian Wahl, the author of Designing Regenerative Cultures, Mirian Vilela, Executive Director of Earth Charter International, and Daniel Abreu, a young ecologist, activist and author of Kai y a Cancion de la Madre Tierra. We were happy to co-host the 2022 Club of Rome Annual Conference as they celebrated the 50th anniversary of the publication “The Limits to Growth.”

The event, which took place in our Education Center on 4 and 5 December, was a unique opportunity to hear from thought leaders, young and indigenous people’s representatives from Latin America and to exchange with The Club of Rome Co-presidents, Sandrine Dixson-Declève and Mamphela Ramphele, Vice-president Carlos Alvarez Pereira, and many participants from around the world.

This Conference was made possible through a partnership among The Club of Rome, Earth Charter International, University for Peace, and the 50 Percent, a global youth-led organization.

Plenary sessions counted with valuable presentations from a diverse group of people with session topics such as:

• Shifting from The Limits to Growth to Global Equity for a Healthy Planet: How do we ensure transformational governance?

• Learning what we already know: Lessons from ancient wisdom still alive

• What is emerging: Seeds of good governance at multiple levels
