Stephan Peters, a ULACIT Biomedical Engineering graduate and founder of 3D Armour, won the regional stage of the Startup World Cup, earning a place in its 2026 Grand Finale on November 6 in Silicon Valley, San Francisco.
The competition brings together startups from around the world, connecting founders with investors, corporations and leaders from the global technology ecosystem. At the Grand Finale, Stephan will take his venture to an international stage where the competition culminates in a US$1 million investment prize.
For Stephan, this journey also connects back to his years at ULACIT, where entrepreneurship was encouraged as part of his academic experience. Developing ideas with a business mindset, exploring their potential and learning to turn them into viable initiatives became tools that he has continued applying beyond the classroom throughout his entrepreneurial career.
His progress from Biomedical Engineering student to founder competing on a global stage reflects the entrepreneurial mindset fostered throughout his education. As he prepares to represent Costa Rica at the Startup World Cup, his journey shows how academic learning, when put into practice, can evolve into ventures with international reach.
