Hello! We are looking for TEFL certified teachers to join our program Skills for Life all over Costa Rica!

is currently offering TEFL/ ESL Certified English Teachers fully-funded volunteer positions in the Puntarenas province of Costa Rica! The Costa Rican Government´s Department of Labor sponsor young adults to receive English classes in their local community and have the chance to better their current life situations.

In order to receive classes, students must qualify for government assistance based on their current income and employment status; the students must be able to dedicate 40 hours per week for English classes. The goal of the program is to help these students gain employment at local hotels and businesses where a basic to intermediate level of English is required.

Volunteers will be asked to dedicate 40 hours per week to English lessons with one group of students. The placement gives volunteers an opportunity to explore Costa Rica and immerse themselves in their local community and culture.

4 Month Commitment

Program Dates

· January 27th, 2019- May 25th, 2019

Volunteer Qualifications:

· University Degree, preferably in Education or ESL/TESOL

· TEFL, CELTA degree or equivalent

· Teaching experience

· Have experience volunteering in their local community or abroad

· A clean and current criminal background check

· A Basic level of Spanish (more preferred)

· 21 years of age

· Native English Speaker

· The desire to immerse themselves in Costa Rican culture for at least 4 months

· The desire to strongly impact the lives of young, at risk Costa Rican young adults

· Patience, strong organizational skills and be very adaptable

· Technology savvy (must bring own laptop)

Volunteer Benefits: In exchange for your commitment of 40 hours per week to your students, volunteers will receive:

· Housing with a local Costa Rican host family in a private room

· Three meals per day

· Access to laundry service

· 24/7 support from the local coordinator and Program Coordinator

· All teaching materials and a course syllabus for easy planning

· Volunteer Visa (upon turning in necessary documents)

· Easter Vacation

· $500 Cash Bonus upon successful completion of program

This gives trainees the chance to experience and try out new strategies and techniques in a supportive learning atmosphere, while gaining skills and confidence as a new teacher. The course consists of 160 hours of training and includes 10(min)-20(max) hours of practice teaching with local EFL students. Trainees will be given job placement assistance which they can use while they complete the course or at a later date. Teachers will also complete a portfolio of their work throughout the course, which will be used in their future classrooms and as a tool during job interviews.

Join our talented teaching staff in a month long adventure in one of the best beach towns in Costa Rica ~ Samara beach! Enjoy our free Spanish classes and Free beach yoga along with a range of outdoor activities such as surfing, kayaking, whale/dolphin watching, fishing trips, snorkeling, hiking, horseback riding, biking and more! On the weekends you can also join your classmates to trips to the local island, Isla Chora, and surrounding white sand beaches.

We offer a balanced, hands-on, engaging program which focuses on key areas for being a successful EFL / ESL teacher and includes 10-20 hours of actual teaching practice with local Costa Rican students. You will have the opportunity to teach both children and adult English learners and become fully prepared to teach English in any learning environment!
