Humans are a keystone species! We have the ability to make radical changes in the landscape, working with the cycles of nature, and restoring balance in disturbed landscapes. These photos show a before and after aerial view of La Herta Farm School only 9 months apart.

In these photos you see the installation of various waterscape management strategies. There are swales, infiltration ponds, terraces, and erosion prevention to mitigate loss of water and soil fertility in the landscape. Another highlight in these photos is the Syntropic agriculture systems, designed to mimic nature’s succession process and fertility building systems. These densely planted, management intensive systems support rapid transformation in the landscape, we can already see amazing results from these intentionally designed installations.

La Huerta Farm School, located in San Mateo Costa Rica, was founded by a group of Puntamonians passionate about land stewardship. La Huerta Farm exemplifies techniques in Syntropic agroforestry, watershed management, restoration of soils, natural building, herbalism, and all the beautiful work that comes along with living and evolving with land.
