Why does learning Spanish abroad work so well?
Because Spanish stops being just a subject and becomes part of your daily life.
Ordering your morning coffee, asking for directions, chatting at the local market, or laughing over dinner with your host family, every moment is an opportunity to practice.

That’s the magic of immersion. You learn faster, speak with more confidence, and truly understand the culture behind the language.

At Tico Lingo, we believe Spanish is best learned by living it.

And honestly, nothing teaches you faster than accidentally ordering the wrong thing at lunch.

Have you ever learned a language through travel?

Some things just make learning easier.

For Rhylee, it was the rhythm of Spanish in Costa Rica. Clear, natural, and something she could actually follow from day one. But what really made the difference? The people.

From her teachers and our team to her host family, every moment became part of the experience, and along the way, strangers turned into friends.

Because learning Spanish isn’t just about studying, it’s about feeling at home while you do it.
Have you ever learned a language somewhere that just clicked?

Yoga harmonizes the body, mind, and spirit through physical postures (asanas), breathing exercises, and meditation. This practice improves strength, flexibility, and balance, while also helping to reduce stress and anxiety. Among its benefits are relief from chronic pain, better sleep quality, improved posture, and a deeper inner connection.

Experiencing yoga in a different language creates a unique connection. Learning yoga in another language combines physical, cognitive, and linguistic benefits, transforming the practice into an immersive learning experience. This promotes concentration, expands technical vocabulary, reduces stress, and strengthens the mind-body connection.

Have you ever practiced yoga in a new language?

There’s no better way to get to know a country and its roots than through the food that shapes both everyday life and meaningful celebrations.

And when that food is paired with language, local sayings, and the emotions that come out in the kitchen, the experience becomes something deeper.

In Costa Rica, pineapple empanadas tell that story. Introduced during the Spanish colonial period, empanadas evolved over time, blending traditions with local flavors. In places like Golfito, they became something truly special, often filled with homemade pineapple jam and prepared with locally grown fruit.

In our cooking class, students don’t just learn how to make them, they connect with the culture behind every step, every word, and every bite.

Have you ever experienced a culture through its food and language?

Not every dance class tells a story like this.

Swing Criollo isn't just movement, it's history, identity, and community. Born in the dance halls of San José and shaped by generations, it has now been nominated as part of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage.
And here at Tico Lingo, our students don't just learn about Costa Rica… they step into it. With Rocío, every turn and every laugh is part of something bigger than a class.

Because sometimes, the best way to understand a culture… is to dance it.
Would you try Swing Criollo?

Not everything about Costa Rica is what people expect at first.

Some of our students arrive thinking it will be quick to travel everywhere, inexpensive, and easy to plan on the go. And while parts of that can be true, there is always a moment when expectations meet reality.

Longer drives, changing weather, and small cultural details become part of the learning experience. It is not just about studying Spanish, but about adapting, observing, and understanding a different rhythm of life.

That is where the real immersion begins, not in the classroom, but in the everyday moments that challenge what you thought you knew.

Have you ever traveled somewhere that surprised you?

It commemorates the Battle of Rivas in 1856, when Costa Rican forces faced the filibuster troops led by William Walker. During this conflict, Juan Santamaría became a national symbol of courage and sacrifice.

Today, the date is remembered across the country with civic ceremonies and school activities that honor Costa Rica's history and identity.

At Tico Lingo, we believe that learning Spanish also means understanding the culture and stories that shape it.

Solo travel is becoming increasingly common, especially among women who are choosing to explore the world on their own terms.

According to BBC Travel, several countries consistently stand out for safety, peace, and overall quality of life, making them top choices for solo female travelers in 2026

From Costa Rica’s relaxed surf towns to the quiet streets of Estonia, each destination offers something different: connection, culture, and a sense of ease when traveling alone.

At Tico Lingo, we see this same spirit every day, people arriving in Costa Rica to learn Spanish, meet others, and feel at home in a new place. Pura vida

Would you dare to travel solo to any of these destinations?

Holy Week in Costa Rica is a week shaped by tradition.

Across towns and cities, streets fill with processions that reflect long-standing cultural customs. These moments are especially visible on Friday, when many communities come together in a quieter, more reflective atmosphere.

Food also changes during this time. Many people avoid red meat and instead prepare dishes with fish, seafood, and traditional sweets that are specific to the season.

Beyond that, it’s a time when routines slow down and people spend more time with family, following traditions that have been passed down for generations.
It’s less about one single event and more about how the whole country moves differently for a few days.

Have you ever experienced a tradition like this?

Heredia is your home base. Costa Rica is your classroom.

When you join a Spanish immersion program at Tico Lingo, the whole country becomes part of your experience, and yes, that includes beaches like this one.

Here are some facts about Costa Rica that might surprise you:
Home to nearly 6% of the world's biodiversity despite its small size. Abolished its army in 1949, investing in education and health, with a 96% literacy rate. Almost 100% of its electricity comes from renewable sources. Over 60 volcanoes, black sand beaches on the Pacific, white sand in the Caribbean. The Nicoya Peninsula is one of only five "Blue Zones" in the world. Mysterious pre-Columbian stone spheres in the south, still unexplained.
