Eleven years ago, just a couple of days before the opening of the school, I had a meeting with my partner to discuss about the missing details. At the end of the meeting he asked me “do you already know how we are going to name the school?” As soon as I heard him, my mind
just blocked, I had no clue as to what would be the name. He told me that the following Monday at 8:00 am we would go with the attorney to legalize everything and that we would need the name, so I only had three days to think about it: Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I sought and sought in my mind, newspapers, magazines, on TV shows, but nothing, my mind was still blocked. It was something similar like when my kids were to be born. I knew that the names we chose for each of them would be for a lifetime and that was the reason I hesitated a lot while choosing them. My whole life I've been very devout to God, to Jesus Christ and to the Holy Ghost. My mom taught me that whenever I needed inspiration, I just had to pray so that the Holy Ghost would provide me with revelation, and so I did. I prayed on Friday and so I did on Saturday and Sunday, but nothing. I went to church in the morning as usual and prayed with all my heart for revelation. It was 4:00 pm in the afternoon when a friend invited me to her home. We were talking for a while and then another friend came with her daughter. The young girl introduced herself as: "Estefanía". As soon as I heard her name, I got goose bumps, my heart started beating so fast, and my hands were sweating a lot. I did not understand why. I went to the restroom, and I knew something was happening but I did not know exactly what it was. I began to repeat and repeat her name several times until I said “epifanía, epifanía, epifanía!” I realized then that it was the name that the school should have. So great was my joy to have the name, because I was almost over time, that I did not think about its meaning. When I arrived on Monday with my partner at the attorney's office, I said the name of the school. My partner and the attorney immediately asked me “what does it mean?” Of course I could not answer because I did not know about its meaning. Nevertheless, we signed the school with that name. People started telling me it had been given a weird name, but I was so busy with many other things that I did not take the time to find out about it. A few months later I was teaching the subjunctive to two Canadian students when suddenly they cried "Epiphany!" It was up to this point when I had the "epiphany" about the meaning of this word. Often, when I explain some topics that are difficult to understand for our students, as soon as they come to the understand them; they just cry "Epiphany!" with great joy. A few months later I investigated further and learned about its meaning: “manifestation, revelation, appearance” and also it has another very beautiful meaning: "Jesus, light in the darkness that appears as a revelation to men." So our name is "Epifanía, light in learning." We teach in a simple, clear and practical way so that our students do not get confused with endless hours of grammar.
