Still basking in the warmth from our week at Feathered Pipe Ranch where nature literally met us at every turn…

Each day here brought us a little deeper: more grounded in our bodies, more aware of the breath moving through us, allowing ourselves to relax, layer by layer, over and over again.

What started as a group of new friends became, in just one week, a family.

This is a healing place. One where you can go deep and move through whatever your body and mind have been carrying, and open up to new beauty, presence, and joy.

Here are some of my favorite images from the week for you to soak in. 🤍

I’m already looking forward to next year’s retreat with special guests Garth Stevenson and Heidi Rose Robbins. Save the date: August 7–14, 2027, more details coming soon! 🌄

After a busy few months of retreats and reunions, I’m soaking in these final weeks of summer.

Along with long walks on the beach and time with family, I love how the longer days and slower rhythms create a little more space for inspiration, and so much reading.

I’m usually out and about, so I listen to audiobooks while walking my pup in the sunshine or when I’m on the road. Then, before bed, I’ll pick up something from the stack on my nightstand.

This summer, there were 7 books I especially loved. These are the ones I couldn’t put down, kept thinking about, or found myself recommending to others. In addition to the ones picture here that are always within reach.

I tend to gravitate toward nonfiction, but a few novels made their way onto my list this year, too.

I gathered all seven, along with a little about why each one stayed with me, on my blog. If you’re looking for something to read as summer winds down, I hope you find a little inspiration there. Link below ☀️📖⤵️

And I’d love to know: What’s the best book you read this summer? I’m always adding to my stack. 💛

I remember the first time I was asked to stick my tongue out in a yoga class, I thought it was pretty silly. It seemed like one of those quirky yoga things (like a sighing exhale) that we were just supposed to do without asking why. But when I started to get into Lion’s Breath, I could really feel the difference.

Over time, the more I've studied the body, fascia, and the nervous system, the more I've come to appreciate that paying attention to the tongue in our practice can affect the entire body.

Sometimes the smallest parts of us hold the biggest keys to letting go.

There are two often overlooked parts of our practice: the tongue and the eyes. Softening the tongue invites the jaw to relax, the breath to deepen, and the whole body to feel a little less effortful. Our eyes carry tension too, especially after hours on a screen, and releasing it supports the nervous system as a whole.

Craving a little more calm? I shared a 5-minute somatic practice on my blog to help soothe tension. 😜 ⤵️

Releasing our tension requires softness.

It does not require knowing all the answers to whatever may come up. We don’t need to figure everything out.

We just need to give ourselves kind and friendly space to receive our first uncomfortable thought or feeling and every uncomfortable thought or feeling.

If we can trust the ground to support us, we can open more fully to what we discover. It’s like allowing our breath to come in. We don’t have to do anything.

We simply need to welcome it.

The more I practice, the more my heart breaks. ❤️‍🩹

Not because something is wrong. Because I'm finally able to feel it. All of it.

For years I thought practice would smooth things over — remove the hard parts, create harmony. What I've found instead: I feel more of everything. The joy and the grief. The ease and the ache of watching the divisiveness in our world up close.

Allowing myself to feel it all doesn't mean I withdraw. It means I have more capacity to be with what everyone else is feeling. And to ask: what is the way of being with this that doesn't add more aggression, but meets the moment?

This is what I practice for. Not to escape what's here. To be here for it.

I go deeper on this in a new conversation with J. Brown on his podcast, Yoga Talks. Link below to listen, or find it wherever you enjoy your podcasts. 🎙️

Land…Arrive…Relax…

The first LAR changes everything.

It’s the difference between reacting from a place of stress and responding with awareness in the moment.

One of my students, Jeff, put it simply after learning this practice: It’s not just Land, Arrive, Relax. It’s a way of being. I can choose to do this over and over again.

That’s the whole practice, really. We Land, Arrive, and Relax to come back into our bodies.
Then we Listen, Attend, and Respond, so we can meet our lives with more clarity and choice.

May we Pause to welcome ourselves back again and again.

This is LAR-LAR, one of the core practices in my book, The Power of the Pause. If you want to go deeper, the link is in my bio for a free 90-second guided pause. 🩵
