The Dominican Order or Dominicans, is a religious order founded by Saint Dominic and approved by Pope Honorius III (1216–27) on 22 December 1216 in France. There the Dominicans are known as Jacobins, because their first convent in Paris was built near the church of Saint Jacques. Founded to preach the Gospel and transform the Old Catholic guard, the order is famed for its intellectual tradition, h

aving produced many leading theologians, leaders and philosophers. The Dominican Order is headed by the Master of the Order, who is currently Father Bruno Cadoré. In America the order is recognized for bringing the ideals and values of Europe and the Middle East to the new continent. Many Universities and private institutions in the United States, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Canada and Colombia bear the order’s name.
