Beware of False Friends!
In , the word "realizar" does not mean "to realize" in English, even though they sound similar. They have different meanings!

✴️ Realizar in Spanish means "to carry out" or "to do". It's used when talking about completing a task, project, or action.

Example: Voy a realizar una presentación para la reunión de mañana. → I’m going to carry out a presentation for tomorrow’s meeting.

✴️ To realize in English, on the other hand, means "darse cuenta" in Spanish. It refers to becoming aware of or understanding something you didn't know before.

Example: I just realized I forgot my keys! → ¡Acabo de darme cuenta que olvidé las llaves!

✌ So remember: if you’re talking about doing something or carrying out a task, use realizar in Spanish. And if you’re talking about becoming aware of something, use darse cuenta!

Are you ready to follow New Year’s Eve Traditions? ✨

As we approach 2025, we’re excited to learn about how different cultures ring in the new year! 🌍 In Latin America, New Year’s Eve is filled with vibrant customs meant to bring prosperity, love, and good fortune for the year ahead. Let’s dive into a few beloved traditions:

🇨🇴 Colombia: One of the most iconic traditions is wearing **yellow underwear** at midnight for prosperity and success. It’s a fun and colorful way to invite good luck for the year ahead! 🧧🍀

🇲🇽 Mexico: Many Mexicans eat **12 grapes at midnight**, one for each chime of the clock. Each grape symbolizes a wish for each month of the year. Some even make a special wish for love, money, or health with each bite! 🍇

🇨🇱 Chile: In some parts of Chile, families leave a **glass of water outside** their homes at midnight to ensure good luck and financial stability. This tradition is said to attract positive energy and abundance. 🌊💰

🇨🇷 Costa Rica: **Burning an effigy of "El Año Viejo"** (the Old Year) is a common tradition to say goodbye to the past and make space for the new. The "Año Viejo" doll is often filled with fireworks, symbolizing the destruction of all negative energy from the previous year. 💥🔥

🇦🇷 Argentina: Argentinians often celebrate with a big **family feast** and **toast with cider** ("fernet con coca") at midnight. They also have a tradition of **throwing out old, broken items** to symbolize letting go of the old year’s burdens. 🥂🍷

Each of these traditions is a beautiful way to bring in the new year with hope, joy, and renewal. 🎊✨

So, **what’s your tradition for ringing in 2025**? Do you wear yellow underwear, eat grapes, or maybe something else? Share your favorite New Year’s Eve custom with us. 🎉💛
