We are seeking to hire bird ringers to support bird ringing camps in Africa.
These are generally 14-day camps.
Compensation ranges from €1,000 to €1,500 for the 14-day period (depending on the project and country), plus in-country transfers, accommodation, and meals.
Extensive experience ringing birds in the tropics is required. In addition to ringing, you will assist in training young African ornithologists.

🗓️ From August 3 to 7, the 2nd African Migratory Bird Congress will be held in Benin (following the first congress organized in Senegal in 2021).

The congress includes a bird ringing workshop, the second ringing camp of the Benin Ornithological Station, an advanced course on the study of birds in hand and sampling methods and techniques, as well as a tracking workshop. All training sessions will be led by instructors from Africa, Europe, and the United States.

One of the highlights of this congress, which also brings together African bird ringers, will be the presentation of the Beninese national bird ring, "ornithobenin," and its ringing scheme, by the EOB coordinator, Gildas Danvo.

The Avonet measurement format for the global morphometric database will also be presented by Ana Catalina Pinzon Echeverri and Bird Ringing Expeditions , tutors from the African Bird Ringing School Bird Ringing School Five days of lectures and practical workshops will complement these presentations.

On June 16th, the University of Barcelona hosted the "Golden Pliers" tribute ceremony, an honor bestowed by ornithological stations in the Americas and Africa upon bird ringers who have distinguished themselves through extensive careers dedicated to birds, ecosystems, international training, and environmental education through scientific bird ringing.
The award was presented to Italian bird ringer Sandro Brina, who was unable to accept it in 2024 due to his fragile health at the time.
European and American bird ringers attended the event, and his daughter, Nicoletta Brina, accepted the award on his behalf, while Sandro Brina himself followed the proceedings live. The tribute included a banquet in Sandro's honor in the Ebro Delta. Sandro Brina is the director of the Oasi Costiera Bird Ringing Station on the Italian Adriatic coast. Since the 1970s, his station has ringed over 150,000 birds, resulting in countless international recoveries. As an instructor of young Italian bird ringers and an international reference for his methodology and results.
