Wherever you go, go with love ❤️ —————————————————. —- Comuna 13, was once labeled the most dangerous community due to the high rates of homicide and crime. In the 80s and 90s it was run by the cartels and guerilla fighters. Then on Oct. 16, 2002, when the Colombian military carried out the controversial Operation Orión, a strike to overthrow all rebel groups in Comuna 13. Over 1,000 policemen, soldiers, and aircrew in helicopters attacked the area (comprising of roughly 100,000 inhabitants). Nine people were killed (three children), and hundreds were wounded. The siege made it impossible to seek medical attention for the wounded, and the community took to the streets in solidarity flying white rags. Eventually the fighting peace was declared. In 2006, as a compensation for many decades of neglecting Comuna 13, the elected mayor decided to invest a huge amount of money to improve the quality of life of its inhabitants and in 2008 a new cable car line in San Javier Station was built to integrate this Comuna with other surrounding communities. Little by little the neighborhood continued receiving investments, the art scene continued growing and it turned into one of the most popular destinations in the world. ————————————

I paid money to climb stairs and loved every minute of it!
Definitely was one of my favorite places to see and totally free! Just have to reserve online, and wear a mask. Loved seeing Botero’s work as well as Degas, Monet, Picasso, Dalí and more!

Fernando Botero Angulo is a Colombian figurative artist and sculptor, born in Medellín. His signature style, also known as "Boterismo", depicts people and figures in large, exaggerated volume, which can represent political criticism or humor, depending on the piece. Personally for me many of his paintings brought a sense of joy and abundance as I looked at them.
