COMPARATIVES IN ENGLISH:

Los comparativos se usan para comparar DOS personas, situaciones, animales, cosas etc.
Así, dependiendo de la longitud del adjetivo se le coloca ER O MORE.

REGLA 1:

Si el adjetivo es de una o dos sílabas, se coloca ER al final de este.

Ejemplo: Lucy is TALLER than me= Lucy es MÁS ALTA que yo.

TALL (adjetivo normal)
TALLER (Adjetivo comparativo)

Otros ejemplos=

CLEAN/CLEANER= Limpio/ más limpio
BRIGHT/BRIGHTER= Brillante/ más brillante.
DARK/DARKER= Oscuro/ más oscuro

REGLA 2:

Cuando el adjetivo tiene tres sílabas o más, se coloca MORE+ADJETIVO.

Examples: Ashton is MORE CREATIVE than other kids= Ashton es MÁS CREATIVO que otros niños.
Otros ejemplos:

MORE EXPENSIVE= MÁS COSTOSO
MORE EXCITING= MÁS EMOCIONANTE
MORE COMFORTABLE= MÁS COMFORTABLE.

REGLA 3:

1) “ier”: Si la palabra termina con una consonante seguida por “y”, cambiamos la “y” por “i” y luego añadimos “er”.

ANGRY/ANGRIER= Bravo/ más bravo.
PRETTY/PRETTIER= Bonita/ más bonita
HEALTHY/HEALTHIER= Saludable/ más saludable

REGLA 4:

Doble consonante + er: Si una palabra termina en consonante – vocal – consonante, entonces se duplica la última letra antes de añadir “er”

BIG/BIGGER= Grande/ más grande
FAT/FATTER= Gordo/ más gordo
THIN/THINNER= Flaco/Más flaco

REGLA 5:

Existe una pequeña lista de adjetivos que no cumplen con las reglas antes mencionadas, los llamamos EXCEPTIONS= excepciones.

GOOD/BETTER= Bueno/ mejor
BAD/WORSE= Malo/ Peor
FAR/ FURTHER, FARTHER= Lejos/ más lejos

FARTHER= Distancias físicas
FURTHER= Distancias metafóricas.

WARNING!!!!!

THAN es muy importante porque es el que no da el QUE para la comparación. Aquí NUNCA se utiliza THAT

Ejemplo: Lucy is taller THAN me= Lucy es más alta QUE yo.
