Hello everyone,

I wanted to share with you two videos that you may find useful. During my last trip to Colombia (this past July 2021) I met a sweet and super welcoming lady named Doña Dionisia. She is in her own words, a "campesina 100%" in a small town about 4 hours from Bogotá.

My family and I spent a couple of days with her getting to know her and learning from her and, here are 2 videos that you may enjoy watching and/or sharing with your students.

1. La Rutina de Doña Dionisia (in Spanish). While she is showing me how to shear a sheep, she describes her daily routine to me. I tried to include a lot of visuals to help with understanding. My students have loved to learn about her routine and discuss it an compare it to theirs. Link: https://youtu.be/yugJQ40b0zw

2. Tour de la casa de Doña Dionisia (in Spanish). She built this little house along with her husband. We walk through her house, her "huerta" and she also talks about how she uses a lot of the food from her land. In class, we've talked about similarities and differences. https://youtu.be/DL2Y1dOfKk4

3. I still have a few more videos of this experience where she taught us how to milk a cow, shear the sheep, etc. and I will be posting them as I am able to edit them.

4. To see other videos from this trip to Colombia (some in English and some in Spanish) check out my playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsE_x52N4s3JuOTFvSKdSdhlziZGApV9I

5. I met another amazing campesino that just moved to a new city and he introduced us to his family and told us a bit about his routine also. Video coming soon to the above playlist.

6. Don't forget to check out www.teachercatalina.com for a lot of FREE resources.

7. If you are looking for another video about Daily Routines: https://youtu.be/fIvq1HrkrnM

Wishing you an awesome day,

Catalina

Meeting Doña Dionisia was one of the highlights of our trip to Colombia and today you can see her unique farm house at the top of a hill in the mountains of Boyacá. Enjoy the tour!

It’s located in a rural area full of nature. We met at the bottom of the hill and we walked up because our car simply couldn’t make it up that steep incline.

Although we are avid hikers, adding the altitude made it another level of challenging. It was impressive to see her going up so comfortably and she told us she does it 2-4 times a day. She’s in very good shape 😉.

We spent the entire day with her exploring her life and learning from her. We learned a variety of things, from learning how to work with wool that we removed directly from her sheep to milking a cow, life in the countryside and finally a tour of her house. Can’t wait to share those videos too.

Today, you’ll see the tour of this lovely farm house where she made us agua de panela and cuajada. My husband, a chef, fell in love with the traditional kitchen that Doña Dionisia made herself along with her husband.

We loved seeing how self sustainable they are. They grow a lot of their own food in their “huerta ” and they raise different animals for different purposes. Sheep, cows, cuyes, chickens, etc.

Can’t wait to share the rest of the videos with you. It was a beautiful day en el campo. Bas and Nano are still talking about it.

Hola amigos.

Profe Nano's birthday is coming up. This year, we gave him an early birthday gift. (un regalo). Profe Nano was super excited to meet his new perrito or cachorrito. His name is Café.

Why Café? We love a good coffee and in Colombia coffee is at the center of happy memories, good times and every day life. Our little Café or "Cafecito" is already at the center of happy memories, good times and in our every day life.

He is already practicing his Spanish and since it's the beginning of the school year and he is a puppy, he is starting with the basics. He went around introducing himself and saying hello to everyone.

Hello everyone!

Happy new school year.

I just wanted to share some resources that I use with my students and that many teachers and students have used in the past; just in case you want to use them or you haven't downloaded them yet. Everything is FREE.

I am a virtual school teacher in Florida (10th year virtually and 16th year teaching) and therefore I do create a lot of resources and videos that are useful with virtual learning. I teach mostly middle and high school but I also have a group of Elementary kiddos.

NEW Comprehensible Input Activities (videos and handouts): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_9cCv8oyXFeW6C6rdM8J6jHUQB-_zyq3/view?fbclid=IwAR2ryFhIO1eerKE9ZIbdHHQ_rN5XI7eHHXxycPHm056HNFKFR-AZAPCseww

This is a PDF that I share with all of my Spanish 1 students at the beginning of the school year and I ask them to keep it on their desktop. It's clickable and it takes them to a video lesson on that topic in case they need extra help. I also use it with my Spanish 2 students as a review: https://drive.google.com/file/d/11Jk0Yw4ihLZs8PZV5C9RbGCfV0GLdfVJ/view?fbclid=IwAR0xqkgyzMhf9UZuScUJCO_wcWXEz2kHKRAgYWOuCm3w3VcIgkq9fDD8i6Y

Today we bring you Day 3 of Villa de Leyva, Colombia. Did you know there is a desert in Villa de Leyva? Check it out!

You know when you are on a roll and things are just happening? That's how our summer started ... and then things got a bit hectic.

Our intent was to get all of our summer videos released before school started, however, we are a bit behind schedule. We are still working on editing a few of our U.S. Summer travel videos and also our Colombia Vlogs.

Once we release our summer videos and we settle into our new life we will resume recording and releasing videos with Teacher Catalina and Profe Nano. We've heard many of you want to see Profe Nano again (he took his summer vacation to enjoy kid stuff and he very much deserved it) but he can't wait to be back.

Stay tuned! Lots of awesome things happening!
