🤔 How long does it take to reach a conversational level of Spanish? It's one of the questions I get the most every day, and I can answer that with the case of my student and friend Rob.
Rob is the best example that if there is commitment, desire, and an open cultural mind, you can quickly start speaking Spanish!
It took Rob less than a year to be able to converse with native Spanish speakers.
In addition to classes, Rob also took the Academic-Cultural Journey my immersive experience in Colombia.
He has visited our country 5 times in the last 3 years! It seems to me that Rob has visited more cities in my country than I have. He has made many friends in Colombia and enjoys our culture very much.

The Unseen Hero. How I Saved My Student's Immersion Experience (and How You Can Avoid Similar Nightmares) 😉💙👌
Ever wondered what goes into crafting an unforgettable immersive experience?
I'm here to share a story about the unseen effort that goes into ensuring your Spanish learning journey in Colombia is smooth sailing.
Logistics: The Backbone of Immersion. For me, it all boils down to meticulous planning. That means taking care of everything from comfortable accommodation and convenient transportation to delicious meals, insightful tours, and top-notch academic resources. My students get to fully focus on their learning while I handle the behind-the-scenes magic.
A Logistical Hiccup: Putting My Skills to the Test. Recently, Rob, a dedicated student from the Netherlands, embarked on his 5th Colombian adventure with my Academic Cultural-Journey program. Like many others, Rob might not realize the unseen efforts that ensure a seamless experience. On this occasion, a last-minute logistical hurdle tested my problem-solving skills and unwavering commitment.
The Importance of Anticipation. Rob specifically requested a quiet room. To ensure his comfort, I personally coordinated this detail with the hotel beforehand. As part of my usual routine, I always visit the hotels a week before student arrivals to double-check everything. On the day of Rob's arrival, I faithfully followed this protocol, arriving 2 hours early.
An Unexpected Change: Time for Plan B (and C). Imagine my surprise when I discovered the hotel had switched Rob's room – without informing me! The new room, while aesthetically pleasing, was located near a noisy avenue. To my disappointment, the manager wouldn't honor our original agreement or offer a quieter alternative.
For the first time in my career, I felt immense pressure. With the clock ticking (Rob's arrival was imminent!), I had just 45 minutes to find a new hotel that met all his needs, in Medellín one of the most popular tourist destinations.
Turning Challenges into Triumphs. Determined to fulfill my promise, I left the unreliable hotel, fueled by a mix of frustration and unwavering commitment. And guess what? With a stroke of luck (or perhaps, the reward for meticulous planning!), I secured a breathtaking new hotel. Rob himself described it as a fairytale escape – nestled amidst the mountains yet conveniently close to the city. Spacious rooms, ultimate comfort, and the soothing sounds of nature – a perfect environment for learning and relaxation.
Proactive planning wins! This experience solidified my meticulous approach. I anticipate challenges and have backup plans (hotel visits!), ensuring a seamless learning journey for you.

Avoid Confusion: "Conmigo mismo" Vs. "Yo mismo"! Keys to Speak Fluently 😉💙👌🏻
👋🏻Hola, ¿cómo vas?
Es un gusto estar contigo de nuevo, ¡aquí empieza la magia!
El tema de hoy confunde a muchos estudiantes del idioma español cuando quieren hablar de manera fluida y son el uso de las expresiones “conmigo mismo (a)” y “yo mismo (a)”.
😉Diferencias y similitudes:
Conmigo mismo (a): “conmigo mismo (a)” es la unión de un pronombre personal “conmigo” más el adjetivo “mismo”.
Se utiliza para indicar que la acción del verbo recae sobre el mismo sujeto que realiza la acción. En otras palabras, significa que la acción se realiza por uno mismo y para uno mismo, pero con la idea de compañía o unión.
Sí usas la expresión “conmigo mismo” recuerda que siempre estarás añadiendo énfasis a lo que dices.
Yo mismo (a): “yo mismo (a)” es la unión de un pronombre personal “yo” más el adjetivo “mismo”.
Enfatiza que la acción la realiza uno mismo, sin necesidad de compañía. Cada vez que uses la expresión “yo mismo (a)” también estarás agregando énfasis a la idea que comunicas.
¿Es correcto decir “a solas conmigo mismo"?
Usar la expresión "a solas conmigo mismo" es correcto, y en este caso necesario. Si usamos la expresión "a solas conmigo" suena raro y muy ambiguo, pues no queda claro si se refiere a que tú estás solo, o a que otra persona está a solas contigo.

Reflexión:
1. 👩🏼Necesito tiempo a solas conmigo mismo, por eso decidí tomarme 15 días de vacaciones para pensar sobre mi futuro.

2. 🧔🏻♂️Yo mismo lo escuché, nadie me lo contó.
Transformación:
3. 👩🏼 La conexión conmigo misma ha consistido en mirar mi propia historia, pensamientos, emociones, creencias y modelos mentales, con el objetivo de poder aceptar, incluir y transformar lo que quiero en mi vida.
Autonomía:
4. 🧔🏻♂️Yo mismo voy a armar ese escritorio, ya vi que tú no eres capaz.
Reflejo:
5. 👩🏼Estoy aprendiendo a dar mis primeros pasos de bachata, por eso anoche bailé conmigo misma frente al espejo.
Prodigio:
6. 🧔🏻♂️¡Yo mismo lo dibujé! Ya sé que parece increíble, pero fui yo.
Locura:
7. 👩🏼Si mis estudiantes me vieran hablando conmigo misma dirían que parezco loca.
Rebeldía:
8. 🧔🏻♂️Ya que nadie quiere preparar las pastas de la cena, las haré yo mismo.
Soledad:
9. 👩🏼No encontré con quien jugar ajedrez, así que jugaré conmigo misma.
Iniciativa:
10. 🧔🏻♂️Yo mismo la llamé por teléfono y le dije que no era necesario que comprara más verduras para la comida.

10 Examples of the use of the expression “tengo antojo”! 😉💙👌
👋🏻Hola, ¿cómo vas?,
Es un gusto estar contigo de nuevo, ¡aquí empieza la magia!
¿Te ha pasado alguna vez que no puedes sacarte de la cabeza una idea por un sabor, un recuerdo, o una acción? Pues bien, ese es el tema de hoy: ¡Tengo antojo!
Vamos a adentrarnos en esta expresión tan deliciosa con unos ejemplos que podrían abrirte el apetito, transportarte a un lugar o, simplemente, hacerte sentir que necesitas hacer algo de inmediato.
“Tengo antojo” (significado):
Es un deseo intenso, casi irresistible, de comer o hacer algo específico que aparece de manera espontánea, bien sea por el recuerdo placentero de algo que ya hicimos previamente, o porque, simplemente, queremos experimentarlo.
