Earthquake in Colombia.

Fortunately, all our Nueva Lengua students in Bogotá, Cartagena, Ibagué and Medellín are safe, as are our host families, and team members.

However, the recent earthquake has been very strong and widespread, and many people in the affected areas urgently need support, including food and financial assistance.

Nueva Lengua is actively helping. We are delivering donations to the Bogotá Food Bank, and we are also collaborating with Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), an internationally recognized foundation known for its effective work and with whom we have worked for many years.

Queremos compartir la historia de unas exestudiantes que aprendieron español en Nueva Lengua Medellín y que hoy viven y desarrollan su misión en el Pacífico colombiano.

Hace alguno tiempo, estas religiosas misioneras estudiaron español con nosotros. Hoy se encuentran en Guapi (Cauca, en el Pacífico colombiano, cerca de la isla Gorgona), entregando su vida al servicio de las comunidades de esta región.

Allí tuvieron un encuentro inesperado con nuestro director, Pedro Miguel Niño, quien se encontraba acompañando una misión de la Fundación Pontificia Ayuda a la Iglesia que Sufre (ACN), de la cual es presidente.

Historias como esta muestran el impacto que puede tener nuestro trabajo. Cada año, miles de personas llegan a Nueva Lengua para aprender español. Muchas forman una familia en Colombia, crean empresas, desarrollan proyectos de vida, fortalecen su carrera profesional o se enamoran profundamente de nuestro país. En este caso, el español se ha convertido también en una herramienta para servir, construir puentes y acompañar a las comunidades del Pacífico colombiano.
