Last Friday we have a visit from Ms Ginna who runs the Just 'Cause foundation. She was overwhelmed by the support of the TES community who recently contributed school supplies as part of a jeans day community project.
Here is some information about the foundation for anyone who would like to be involved.
Just ‘Cause is a grassroots project which seeks not only to bring opportunities to kids from underprivileged communities in Bogotá, but to also provide them with sources of motivation so that they look for opportunities themselves. We want these kids to know that they can choose to be whatever they want to be and that there will always be something better for them.
So, how do we do it? This is clearly a long process but at Just ‘Cause we started by using English as an excuse to motivate the kids to learn more about the world and what it has to offer. Every Saturday we connect a group of kids in Suba with foreigners who participate on a volunteer basis, meet the kids and play some games with them, not only to practice English but also to be part of a cultural exchange. The sessions last about hour and a half and the only thing the volunteer needs is enthusiasm.
The cultural exchange allows the kids to feel curiosity and interest about the world and about other cultures. This helps them to see that there is more out there for them and that they can reach it too.
