You still have a chance to share your work at the AAPG's first Latin America Geothermal Systems Workshop, coming to Mexico City September 2-3.

This 2-day, in-person only event provides a platform for technical, government, and new business professionals to explore the potential for geothermal energy and associated resources in Latin America.

The committee seeks oral and poster presentations highlighting geological considerations, technological advances, and pilot projects.

The new abstract submission guideline is June 21.

The Technical Symposium afternoon session highlighted emerging technologies for hydrocarbon exploration and development.

Presenters from Beicip-Franlab, Baker Hughes, Halliburton, U3 Explore, Lumina and ROGII shared strategies for turning data to decisions and provided real life examples from projects in
Venezuela.

The day concluded with presentations about AAPG activities in Venezuela, shared by Keyla Gonazlez, representing the AAPG YP Venezuela Chapter and strategies for job creation in Venezuela, shared by Oman Oquendo, president of VAPA.

Conversations continued at the networking reception held at sunset. Participants reminisced about time spent In Venezuela decades ago and looked forward to what’s next for the country and its energy sector.

The kicked off with opening remarks from AAPG President Brian Horn, General Chair Ana Maria Goncalves, and Technical Symposium Chair Juan Francisco Arminio and a word of greeting from Kyle Haustveit, Assistant Secretary, United States Department of Energy.

Keynote speaker Jairo Lugo set the stage for the symposium by providing an overview of the Venezuela’s petroleum systems and oil and gas opportunities.

Geological discussions continued through talks by James Pindell, David Sanford Lewis, Rual Ysaccis, Andrew Pepper and Tomas Mata.
Participants also enjoyed networking and the opportunity to share interpretations, and stories, attending from around the world.

In addition to the technical program, the provided multiple outlets for participants to learn, share and connect.

The Opportunities Stage located in the coffee break area, featured Staatsolie - Suriname, ANCAP – Uruguay, and CEL – El Salvador, who presented bid round and investment opportunities in their countries, and Bridger Photonics, who showcased technologies for detecting methane emissions.

Business-to-business (B2B) sessions held in meeting rooms allowed attendees to connect privately with current and future partners. Petrobras hosted meetings in a private room, and participants took turns using other rooms on-site.

The second day of opened with a Global Energy Outlook presentation delivered by Bob Fryklund of S&P Global.

The day concluded with a career development session and roundtable with industry leaders and 60 Brazilian students.
