The City Council adjourned their September 13, 2023, meeting in memory of Richard Reese.

Mayor Holloway shared the following tribute:

It is our honor to dedicate and close this Rancho Santa Margarita City Council meeting in the memory of Richard Reese. So many people in our community have such fond memories of Richard, his role as the master planner of the City of Rancho Santa Margarita, along with his dedication and commitment to maintaining that vision. His “urban village” concept became a reality: “an open setting where people could work, shop and play near their homes.”

Those of us that live here now and all future residents of this community owe Richard so much. Being such a humble man, he didn’t see it that way. We would offer our heartfelt thanks for his efforts, and Richard would politely say thank you and give others the credit.

Beyond his tremendous professional accomplishments that will affect countless lives forever, Richard was as kind and caring a person as you have ever known. He so enjoyed talking with those he encountered regardless of the subject. On a personal level, Richard spent countless hours talking to city staff members as well as creating lasting memories for each and every city council member with his energetic and enjoyable and professional and personal conversations.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Richard’s entire family: his wife Linda, son John, daughter-in-law Kathy and daughter Julianne. Richard was 95 years young when he passed on August 29th. His legacy will remain as long as the City of Rancho Santa Margarita. 15/09/2023
