Reunited by the Nanxi River, Twenty Years On —
The 20th Anniversary Reunion of Class 3, Cohort of 2005, Yongjia High School, Concludes Successfully

In the gentle warmth of winter in Yongjia, the emerald waters of the Nanxi River shimmered with ripples of time, bearing witness to a youthful promise renewed after two decades. Recently, the 20th anniversary reunion of Class 3, Cohort of 2005, of Zhejiang Yongjia High School was successfully held in Yongjia. Thirty-six former classmates travelled across mountains and seas to return to their hometown, reuniting with seven respected teachers — Shao Yongteng, Zhang Guangping, Zhao Dazang, Jin Kecheng, Sun Liduo, Lu Jianxiong and Zhou Dongxin. Together, they revisited their alma mater, reminisced about their formative years, and rekindled the pure and enduring bonds between teachers and students, and among classmates, as time gently turned its pages.

At the outset of the reunion, filled with both anticipation and a touch of nervous excitement, the group first made their way to the former campus of Yongjia High School. The administrative building with its grey brick walls and dark-tiled roofs, the familiar layout of the canteen, the weathered doors and windows of the dormitories, and the glow of sunset over the sports ground — all appeared just as they had twenty years ago, instantly awakening long-sealed memories of youth.

“Do you remember the morning runs here? Our chants echoed across the whole campus!”
“During evening study sessions in that teaching block, we wrote tirelessly — those whispered conversations and secretly passed notes were small joys amid the pressure!”

As they wandered through every corner of the campus, fingertips brushing against old walls, vivid scenes resurfaced: spirited runs on the sports field at dawn; playing Jay Chou’s Still Fantasy and Jolin Tsai’s Look at Me 72 Changes on Mr Jin’s cassette recorder during breaks; fighting shoulder to shoulder at sports meets for the honour of the class, getting up with a smile after a fall; laughter reverberating through the valleys during the autumn excursion to Yandang Mountain; slightly awkward yet heartfelt performances at the New Year’s gala; and even the amusing “Internet café locomotive incident” and the enduring nickname of “Big Brother”. These scattered fragments intertwined into a complete and precious tapestry of youth, becoming topics of animated conversation.

The group then proceeded to the new campus of Yongjia High School. Although many had attended the foundation-laying ceremony of the new site in 2003, for most this was their first time stepping into the modern campus. The school had thoughtfully prepared a digital welcome banner and opened the school history museum for their visit. Secretary Jin Lingyong warmly received the alumni and gave a detailed account of the school’s eventful journey — three administrative reassignments, four campus relocations, and five name changes. Founded in 1952, Yongjia High School has grown, through the passage of time, into a First-Class Key Senior Secondary School of Zhejiang Province with distinctive features. The spirit of its motto — “Be sincere and never slacken; explore things to attain true knowledge” — continues to be passed down from generation to generation. Secretary Jin remarked, “Your alma mater will always be your harbour. We hope you will return often to witness the school’s growth and warmth,” and extended early New Year wishes, leaving the alumni deeply moved by the school’s vitality and care.

“Class begins! Stand up! Good morning, class! Good morning, sir!”
The familiar classroom ritual was re-enacted in a classroom of the new campus. When form tutor Mr Shao Yongteng stepped onto the platform, he remarked with emotion, “When I taught you, I was about the age you are now — in the prime of life.” Though years have passed, he still remembered most faces clearly. He reminded the class that they are now pillars of both family and career, and urged them to strive diligently while also cherishing their health and wellbeing.

Mathematics teacher Zhao Dazang retained his trademark wit and wisdom. Using the stability of a triangle as a metaphor, he offered a philosophical reflection: “A healthy body, a warm family, and a meaningful career — these are the three vertices that support a happy life. Only when all three are strong can life stand firm.” With humour, he wished that their lives might be as vast as the set of real numbers, attaining their own maximum values within an expansive domain; and that the bond between teachers and students would resemble π — infinite and never repeating.

English teacher Jin Kecheng spoke with particular emotion. As this had been the first class he taught at Yongjia High School, the three years from Year 10 to Year 12 remained vivid in his memory. He shared amusing stories, especially the playful “pranks” of class clown Huang Zhouyun, prompting waves of laughter. He also proudly noted that among the 2005 graduates, eleven went on to earn doctoral degrees — eight of them from this very class — a testament to its enduring tradition of diligence and academic excellence.

History teacher Sun Liduo spoke on the theme, “History is alive, not dead, because it is created by people,” encouraging everyone to steer their own course and write their own remarkable chapters. Other teachers shared memories and heartfelt wishes, transporting everyone back to the classroom of twenty years past.

That evening’s banquet sparkled with warmth and light. The dedication of the organising committee ensured the reunion’s success. The preparation process, however, had not been smooth: from an initial list of 29 names, only around 20 had confirmed attendance. On the eighteenth day of the twelfth lunar month, the organisers even considered postponing the event. Yet, through persistent encouragement and discussion lasting until 11:30 p.m., a final plan was agreed. Tasks were divided efficiently: some secured the hotel venue; others invited teachers and followed up; others coordinated logistics and commemorative attire; and some contacted each classmate individually. It was this perseverance that made the reunion possible.

Originally comprising 61 students (after academic-stream division in Year 10), the class had successfully reconnected with 97% of its members before the reunion, with only two still uncontactable. Some overcame considerable obstacles: one returned from Spain and proactively reached out; another cut short a holiday; another postponed a family celebration. Those unable to attend sent video messages and greetings via WeChat, ensuring that distance did not diminish affection.

At the banquet, the class monitor addressed the gathering with deep emotion, recalling how twenty years earlier they had bid farewell with youthful uncertainty and hope. Now, reunited across distances, he expressed profound gratitude. The class has since produced university professors, skilled surgeons, successful entrepreneurs, and devoted spouses and parents. Whatever their paths, the bond they share remains as clear and enduring as Yongjia’s mountains and rivers.

He concluded with a call: “Let this reunion be a new beginning. Let us stay in touch, meet often, and never allow busyness to become an excuse for distance. In ten or twenty years’ time, let us return once more to Yongjia and to our alma mater.”

“To twenty years of reunion, to enduring bonds, and to a brighter future — cheers!”
Glasses were raised, their clear chime echoing through the hall as song, laughter and conversation wove together into a timeless and heart-warming scene.

This reunion was not merely a return to youthful memories, but a continuation of friendship and a passing on of spirit. Just as Yongjia High School has upheld its founding mission for over seventy years, so too will Class 3 of 2005 carry forward their teachers’ guidance and one another’s blessings as they move steadfastly along life’s journey.

“When shall fellow travellers return to Yongjia?”
All look forward to the next gathering — each bringing an even better version of themselves to an even more beautiful reunion.

An Initiative on Physical Fitness
Addressed to the Class of 2025 Graduates of Zhejiang Yongjia High School

Dear Graduates of the Class of 2025 of Yongjia High School,

First of all, heartfelt congratulations on embarking upon your new journey at university! Your alma mater is immensely proud of your growth and perseverance over the past three years of senior high school, and will always remain here, quietly following your progress and wishing you well at every step ahead.

Looking back on your time at Yongjia High School, the green sports fields bear witness to your youthful strides — the all-out sprints on Sports Day, the disciplined and synchronised runs during extended morning breaks, and the resounding chants echoing across the campus. Every drop of sweat testifies to your determination and dreams. Now, as you step into a broader world, may you always remember the school motto, “Be sincere and never slacken; explore things to attain true knowledge.” May you strive not only for academic excellence, but also to write your own remarkable chapters in life.

General Secretary Xi Jinping has noted that “national fitness is the foundation and guarantee for enhancing physical strength and leading a healthy life for all people, and an important cornerstone for personal growth and a happy life.” As the annual Zhejiang Provincial university assessment under the National Student Physical Fitness Standards approaches, we would like to share a few thoughts with you, in the hope of accompanying you as you meet the challenge in the best possible condition:

I. Maintain a balanced routine and exercise scientifically, infusing youth with healthy vitality
We hope you will take good care of yourselves, value both physical and mental wellbeing, and strike a healthy balance between study and daily life, maintaining a positive and optimistic outlook. Try to cultivate the habit of going to bed early and rising early, greeting each day with renewed energy. Step out of the classroom and onto the sports field more often, releasing stress and re-energising yourselves in the sunshine and sweat. Choose sports that suit you — whether running, ball games, swimming, or gymnastics — and improve your fitness through scientific training while enjoying the pleasure that exercise brings.

II. Persevere in exercise and temper your will, shaping a better version of yourself through sport
Select a sport you truly enjoy and integrate it into your everyday life. Let exercise become a habit, a pleasure, and a driving force for personal growth. Learn self-discipline through persistence and forge resilience through effort and sweat. Take part in more team sports, learning to make progress through cooperation and to grow through healthy competition. Every moment of perseverance brings you closer to a stronger and more composed version of yourself.

III. Embrace health and all-round development, and let sport illuminate your university life
Health is the starting point of all dreams and the foundation of a fulfilling life. We hope you will uphold the principle of “health first”, building strong bodies through regular exercise while cultivating a positive and optimistic mindset. Let sport become an indispensable part of your university experience, helping you cope better with academic pressures and enabling you to shine with confidence in the prime of youth.

Though parting is inevitable, our bond endures. Yongjia High School will always cherish the stories we share together and remain a spiritual home that connects us all. No matter how far you go, the doors of your alma mater will always be open to you. Finally, we wish you every success in the physical fitness assessment — may you perform at your best, face it with ease, and achieve the results you hope for.

Warmth on Double Ninth, Salute to Glorious Years — Zhejiang Yongjia High School Holds Heartwarming 2025 Retired Teachers’ Tea Gathering

Year after year, the Double Ninth Festival returns, and here it is again. On October 29th, brimming with respect and warmth on this traditional festival, the third floor of Yongjia High School's dining hall was filled with a cosy atmosphere as a specially arranged Double Ninth Festival tea gathering for retired teachers warmly commenced. The esteemed educational pioneers who once dedicated themselves to teaching gathered together, sharing memories of bygone days and the festive warmth, spending a heartwarming and unforgettable time filled with laughter and joy.

Around 9:00 AM, the registration area was already a lively scene. Retired teachers arrived one after another with eager anticipation. Teacher Hu Mingsuo, in charge of registration, had prepared the sign-in book in advance and warmly welcomed each senior teacher. Kind greetings and warm handshakes instantly bridged the distance between everyone. Familiar faces and long-awaited conversations filled the venue with the joy of reunion. The tea gathering officially began under the gentle and cordial hosting of the Labour Union Chairwoman, Wang Xiaoping, creating an exceptionally warm atmosphere.

Considering the health needs of the retired teachers, the event specially invited two traditional Chinese medicine therapists to provide voluntary services, offering adjustments for senior teachers with discomfort in their lumbar, shoulders, or neck. The teachers participated in an orderly manner, their faces beaming with gratified smiles. "The school has thought of everything so thoughtfully! Not only bringing us together for a lively gathering but also caring for our health. It's truly heartwarming!"

During the gathering, Zhang Yanfeng, President of the Retired Teachers’ Association, delivered a work report for the first half of 2025. The teachers listened attentively, unanimously praising the association's efforts and offering valuable suggestions for future activities.

Subsequently, Jin Lingyong, Secretary of Yongjia High School, addressed the gathering. On behalf of all teachers and students, he first extended festive greetings and high respect to the retired teachers. He then introduced the school's development achievements in recent years and its future plans, sincerely hoping that the senior teachers would often return to the school, continue to pay attention to and support the school's development, and offer their valuable advice. His sincere words and profound care deeply moved the retired teachers, eliciting waves of applause.

The exchange session brought the event's atmosphere to a climax. The senior teachers sat together, reminiscing about their past teaching years, discussing the new look of the campus today, and sharing their happy lives in retirement. Their weathered faces radiated with happy smiles, and their conversations were filled with deep affection for the educational cause and concern for the school.

Finally, the teachers moved to the front of the first-floor dining hall for a group photo. As the camera shutters clicked, bright smiles were captured, eternally preserving this warm and beautiful moment and drawing a perfect conclusion to the Double Ninth Festival tea gathering.

This Double Ninth Festival tea gathering, with warmth as its pen and respect as its ink, wrote of Yongjia High School's care for its senior teachers. In the future, the school will continue to uphold the fine tradition of respecting, honouring, and caring for the elderly, persistently attending to the life needs of retired teachers. This ensures that senior teachers enjoy their later years in a warm and harmonious atmosphere, and allows this timeless educational sentiment to be passed down through generations within the school.
