At Yantai Huasheng International School (YHIS) we always believe that education extends far beyond the classroom walls. For a number of years, our school has cultivated meaningful partnerships with local community organizations, demonstrating our commitment to creating positive change in the Yantai region and instilling values of service and civic responsibility in our school community.

Our collaboration with Yangfan Youth Development Center, which meets the needs of students with special needs, reflects Yantai Huasheng's dedication to supporting youth growth and development in our local community. Through this partnership, our school community have had the opportunity to engage in meaningful volunteer work, mentor younger students, and participate in their alternate skill-building programs that benefit their students. This relationship has allowed our school community to contribute to the center's mission financially while also providing serving opportunities to our teachers, parents, and students.

It is truly an honor for our school to be part of Yangfan’s story and journey over the past three years, which culminated in the opening of the new center this year in downtown. On Tuesday, April 20, some of our leadership team and PTO members gathered to celebrate the opening of the new center as well as to hand over the donation of funds that our community raised at our Christmas market and other initiatives. Mr. Amine Chebihi and his wonderful team from Hilton Hotel downtown Yantai, provided the catering for the day with an incredible spread savory and sweet snacks – thank you once again for your team’s wonderful heart of service.

These collaborations embody our school's core values and prepare our students to become global citizens who understand the importance of giving back and creating meaningful change in their communities.

Yantai Huasheng International School (YHIS) and Yantai International Academy (YIA) celebrated Teachers’ Day with a thoughtful display of appreciation, organized by our dedicated PTO. Parents prepared a special breakfast gathering to recognize the hard work, care, and commitment our teachers demonstrate throughout the school year.

The café space was warmly decorated, creating an inviting environment where teachers could pause and feel encouraged before the start of the school day. From preparing food to organizing breakfast bags, to welcoming staff members, parents served with generosity and joy.

More than a celebration, the event reflected the strong partnership between families and staff at Yantai Huasheng. We are grateful for a community that continues to support one another so faithfully and for teachers who invest daily in the growth and well-being of our students.

Yantai Huasheng International School (YHIS) and Yantai International Academy (YIA) proudly presented the beloved musical The Sound of Music, bringing together talent, dedication, and community in a truly memorable production.

The production showcased the remarkable efforts of 68 students from YHIS and YIA, who took on both leading and supporting roles. They were joined by the fifth grade class, whose energy and enthusiasm helped bring the ensemble scenes to life. Across five performances, the cast performed for more than 2,000 audience members.

A defining milestone of this year’s production was the opportunity to perform at the Yantai Grand Theater for the very first time in the school’s history. This historic moment marked an important step in expanding the school’s presence beyond campus and engaging with the broader Yantai community.

Behind the scenes, over 30 teachers and staff contributed their time and expertise to ensure the success of the show. From stage design and costumes to technical support and coordination, their commitment played a vital role in bringing the production together.

Preparing for the musical required nearly four months of rehearsals—an investment of time and energy alongside already full academic schedules. The process was demanding, but it was also deeply rewarding. Through perseverance, collaboration, and a shared sense of purpose, students not only delivered an outstanding performance but also created lasting memories.

More than just a performance, The Sound of Music was a celebration of courage, creativity, and community. It stands as a testament to what can be achieved when students and staff come together with passion and commitment.

The 2026 LifePlus Middle School Basketball Tournament was a vibrant display of teamwork, perseverance, and growth for both the Yantai Huasheng boys’ and girls’ teams. Across two days of competition, students demonstrated not only their developing skills on the court but also their commitment to representing the school with integrity and pride.

The boys’ team finished in 3rd place and was also honored with the Sportsmanship Award, a recognition that reflected their positive attitude, respect for others, and strong character throughout the tournament.

In just its second year, the girls’ team continued to make meaningful progress, gaining valuable experience and setting a strong foundation to build on for future seasons. Their determination, teamwork, and willingness to compete with courage were evident in every game.

Both teams represented Yantai Huasheng with pride, and we are proud of their effort, resilience, and sportsmanship.

Our high school Chinese class students recently took part in a meaningful field trip that brought learning beyond the classroom and into real cultural experiences. During the visit to 懿荣故里 (Hometown of Yi Rong), students explored the history of Chinese characters—especially oracle bone script—and learned about the life and legacy of Wang Yirong, the scholar who first discovered these ancient writings.

Through guided tours and hands-on activities, students deepened their understanding of Chinese history and culture. They had the opportunity to experience traditional printing techniques, carefully arranging type, applying ink, and creating their own works. As MinJi C. (G9) shared, “We first learned about the history of oracle bone script—how it developed and how it influenced people in ancient China. I found this activity very interesting and learned a lot about Chinese history, and I hope we can have more opportunities like this in the future.”

Meanwhile, JiMin L. (G10) reflected, “Through this activity, we not only learned many new things about Chinese history, but we were also reminded to observe carefully and pay attention to small details in life. It made us more interested in Chinese culture, and we were all very inspired by the experience.”

Overall, the field trip was both educational and inspiring. Students not only gained new knowledge but also developed patience, curiosity, and appreciation for craftsmanship—leaving them eager for more experiential learning opportunities in the future.

At the TEDx event at Yantai Huasheng International School, students shared thought-provoking ideas on success, life, and the future.

Jacob Y. (G10) challenged the belief that university is the only path to success, encouraging students to pursue diverse and passion-driven paths. George P. (G7) reflected on the concept of memento mori, highlighting how awareness of life’s limits can inspire purposeful living. Selina J. (G7) explored artificial intelligence, arguing that its impact depends on how individuals use it, and emphasizing the enduring importance of human qualities.

Together, the speakers demonstrated curiosity, courage, and a willingness to question assumptions, offering meaningful perspectives on shaping one’s future. We are proud of our students for their insight, confidence, and courage in sharing ideas that inspire others.

Elementary Field Day brought a day of energy, laughter, and friendly competition for all students. The event kicked off with exciting track races, where 1st and 2nd graders gave their all in the 50-meter dash, while students in Grades 3 to 5 powered through the 100-meter sprint.

Beyond the track, the excitement continued across a variety of engaging activities. Students worked together in lively games of Dodge Ball and Capture the Flag, strengthening teamwork and strategy. They navigated the Obstacle Course with determination and showcased their coordination through basketball dribbling and shooting challenges. The Jumping Castle offered nonstop fun, while the Face Painting Station—led by our amazing parent volunteers—added a creative and colorful touch to the day.

From beginning to end, the field was filled with enthusiasm, collaboration, and joy. We are grateful to all the parents who came to support and volunteer, helping make the day such a meaningful and memorable experience for our students.
