A TEFL certification is the qualification you get from successfully completing a TEFL course(Teaching English as a Foreign Language).

If you want to teach English online or in a foreign country, you will usually need a TEFL certification to do so. This is so that the school or language company who are hiring you know that you’ve been properly trained and so that you can obtain the correct visa to allow you to work there.

Currently, the school preference and the Chinese government's policy for issuing visa for ESL teachers abroad looking for an opportunity in China must meet the following criteria:

• A passport holder from one of the following countries: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, the United Kingdom, or the United States

• If you are not a passport holder from the said countries, you must meet the following criteria.
o If you are outside of China; you have a bachelor degree or above in English Literature, Education, or Teaching.
o If you are in China; you confirm that your visa is transferable to the new employer.

• All teachers should possess a minimum of 120 hours of TEFL/TESOL/CELTA.
