Institute of Burns, Tong Ren Hospital, Wuhan University

Founded in 1970, the burn center is now a nation wide famous institute in the field of burns, with a Burns Institute was established on October 1996.

Its predecessor was laboratory affiliated with Department of Burn. In the early days it was mainly composed of bacteria room and skin bank, but now it has a comprehensive scientific research system consist of bacteria room, cell laboratory, biochemistry and molecular biology laboratory, animal laboratory, tissue and organ transplantation donated workstation, skin bank, etc. The organizational stru

cture and staff composition of Burns Institute are in one system with Burn unit. There is a total staff of 92 people including clinicians. Among them, 15 are senior titles and 34 are middle-level titles. The experts here are famous in the country. Some of them serve as vice chairman of the National Burn Association, and chairman or permanent member of Burn Surgery Association of Hubei province or Wuhan city. Four full-time researchers work in Burns Institute, and clinicians work here in a part-time or full-time rotation way. We mainly do clinical research related to burn surgery for solving practical problems, sometimes we also do a few basic research to keep up with the frontiers of science. We have got a lot of achievements which were identified as the international or domestic leading level and won some scientific reward from the government, such as “Clinical and experimental research in burn anemia”, “Microskin grafting by spraying in burn management”, etc. Some inventions like “medical microskin spraying machine” and “multi-functional skin breaking machine” have obtained the national patent. We published over 250 articles and 5 monographs in the last ten years. Now our group is undertaking 7 science research projects of national, provincial or municipal. As a training spot for master’s degree of Wuhan University, we made rapid progress in graduate education on Burn surgery. We attach importance to personnel training. Dozens of people have been sent to study in the famous burn centers or research institutes of the country. With the increased communication with other countries in recent years, some people were sent to study in the United States, Germany, Canada, etc. Meanwhile, foreign experts from the United States, German, and New Zealand and so on visited us for academic exchanges. Those activities promote the development of scientific research and clinical treatment about burns. In conclusion, the correct direction and effective operating mechanism may lay a solid foundation for continuous improvement of Burn Institution.

A young man sprinkling his lawn and bushes with pesticides wanted to check the contents of the barrel to see how much pesticide remained in it. He raised the cover and lit his lighter; the vapors inflamed and engulfed him. He jumped from his truck, screaming. His neighbor came out of her house with a dozen eggs, yelling: "bring me some eggs!" She broke them, separating the whites from the yolks. The neighbor woman helped her to apply the whites on the young man's face. When the ambulance arrived and when the EMTs saw the young man, they asked who had done this. Everyone pointed to the lady in charge. They congratulated her and said: "You have saved his face." By the end of the summer, the young man brought the lady a bouquet of roses to thank her. His face was like a baby's skin.

Healing Miracle for burns:

Keep in mind this treatment of burns which is included in teaching beginner fireman this method. First aid consists to spraying cold water on the affected area until the heat is reduced and stops burning the layers of skin. Then, spread egg whites on the affected area.

One woman burned a large part of her hand with boiling water. In spite of the pain, she ran cold faucet water on her hand, separated 2 egg white from the yolks, beat them slightly and dipped her hand in the solution. The whites then dried and formed a protective layer.

She later learned that the egg white is a natural collagen and continued during at least one hour to apply layer upon layer of beaten egg white. By afternoon she no longer felt any pain and the next day there was hardly a trace of the burn. 10 days later, no trace was left at all and her skin had regained its normal color. The burned area was totally regenerated thanks to the collagen in the egg whites, a placenta full of vitamins.

During a BBQ, a woman stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) ...she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.

They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, she went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening.

Her husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 PM she passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.
Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S - Ask the individual to SMILE

T - Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)
(i.e. Chicken Soup)

R - Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.
