🌊 New Breakthrough in Tracking Ocean Toxins! 🐟
Ever wonder how toxic methylmercury actually makes its way into our seafood? A new study led by Prof. Sun Ruoyu from Tianjin University has just cracked the code! 🧬✨
Using an innovative two-stage method, the team can now separately track inorganic mercury and methylmercury in marine life with unprecedented precision. Their research findings were published in top journals Environmental Science & Technology and JAAS. 📚
This breakthrough solves a long-standing puzzle in mercury isotope research and provides crucial data for protecting marine ecosystems under the Minamata Convention. 🌍🛡️
Dr. Li Songjing, postdoctoral researcher at SESS, is the first author of both papers, and Prof. Sun Ruoyu serves as the corresponding author.

From classrooms to countryside: TJU students bridge the gap for rural tourism with a smart mini program
This summer, Tianjin University’s “Wuyou” practice team split into two groups — one heading south to the Miao and D**g villages in Congjiang, Guizhou, the other staying in Tianjin’s Jinghai District. They built a mini program called “Smart Rural Tourism” to bring these hidden gems online.
In Jinghai, they mapped out cultural routes along the Grand Canal, blending local history, scholar traditions, and winter vegetable heritage into a unique cultural tourism brand.
One tap on a screen can now book a homestay in a Miao village or tell the story of the Grand Canal.
The mini program addresses a long-standing information gap in rural tourism at a very low cost, helping lesser-known destinations gain visibility while empowering local residents to become both contributors and beneficiaries of digital content. The model is designed to be replicable and scalable for other regions.

"Ba Tie" – that was the first word Pakistani student Usama Afzal heard from a stranger at Beijing airport. That warm welcome set the tone for everything that followed.❤️
Years later, Usama completed his PhD in Microelectronics at Tianjin University.🎓 During his doctoral studies, he published 28 papers📚, co-authored 4 English academic books, and served as a reviewer for 12 SCI journals. Yet what he cherishes most is the confidence to conduct independent research and the lasting friendships he has forged along the way.✨
Today, Usama calls Tianjin home, hoping to serve as a bridge for research and academic exchange between China and Pakistan. The word that started it all still sums up his journey: "Ba Tie" – Iron Brother.🌏

When disaster strikes, our duty to protect lives knows no borders.
On June 24, 2026, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck northern Venezuela, followed under a minute later by a magnitude 7.5 main shock. In response to an urgent invitation from the Beijing Emergency Rescue Association, Tianjin University’s School of Disaster and Emergency Medicine stepped up to help.
Mr. D**g Wenlong, a teacher from the School of Disaster and Emergency Medicine of Tianjin University joined the Mingzhu Medical Team, racing to La Guaira to provide critical medical relief.
Armed with TJU’s cutting-edge, self-developed technology—including portable POCT devices for blood potassium and creatinine, a rapid diagnostic system for crush syndrome, and non-invasive multi-parameter monitors—the team brought vital trauma supplies and protective gear directly to the front lines.
Making a Real Impact on the Ground:
🏥 Frontline Care: Setting up an emergency station, the team provided urgent medical treatment and disease prevention services to earthquake survivors.
👷 Supporting Rescuers: They delivered essential medical support to search and rescue personnel working tirelessly in the rubble.
🛡️ Stopping Outbreaks: To prevent post-disaster epidemics, the team deployed large-scale fumigation equipment and disinfectants across collapsed ruins, refugee shelters, and temporary clinics.
Through their exceptional medical skills and unwavering professionalism, the team earned high praise from both local survivors and international rescue personnel.
Proud of him for stepping up, serving globally, and protecting lives!
