On April 11, the first MLES Chinese Curriculum Speech Contest Final took place in Wuhan.
Under the theme “Ancient Melodies, New Voices – The Contemporary Echo of Chinese Wisdom,” students from 13 international high schools delivered powerful speeches on:

-Family, nation, and global perspective

What does bravery look like?
For Eileen Gu, it looked like this: competing through the grief of losing her grandmother during the Milano-Cortina Olympics.
She finished with 1 gold and 2 silver—bringing her career total to 6 Olympic medals, the most in freestyle skiing history. But her greatest win wasn't on the scoreboard. It was keeping the promise she made to her grandma: "I will be brave."
As a new semester begins, our students will face their own challenges. Eileen's story is a reminder: results aren't always in our control, but effort and courage are.
Here's to starting the semester with strength, resilience, and the courage to show up—no matter what.
