Shenyang Aerospace University (SAU; simplified Chinese: 沈阳航空航天大学; traditional Chinese: 瀋陽航空航天大學; pinyin: Shĕnyáng Hángkōng Hángtīan Dàxué) formerly known as Shenyang Institute of Aeronautical Engineering (沈阳航空工业学院, pinyin: Shĕnyáng Hángkōng Gōngyè Xuéyuàn) is a comprehensive educational/research university situated in Shenyang, Liaoning, northeast of China. Founded in 1952, the university
was initially administered by the National Ministry of Aeronautical & Astronautical Industry, and later by the China General Corporation of Aeronautical Industry. Since 1999, SAU has been under the administration of the Liaoning Provincial Government and is the only university owned by the China Industry and Information Technology Ministry and the Liaoning Provincial Government. It is one of the eight universities constructed by the former China National Defence Ministry and local provincial governments. In addition, it is the only university of aeronautical and astronautical engineering in Liaoning Province. Since its foundation, the university has striven to further its development under the guidance of national education policies. Its ongoing focus on innovation has ensured its status as an organisation making a valued contribution to the enhancement of China's modern construction, especially to the aeronautical and astronautical industry. On 18 March 2010 the China Ministry of Education approved the name change from Shenyang Institute of Aeronautical Engineering (SYIAE) to Shenyang Aerospace University (SAU). Academics and student life
Characterized by aeronautics and astronautics, Shenyang Aerospace University is a multi-disciplinary university, which, while focusing on engineering, also covers such areas as science, liberal arts and management. The university comprises 17 schools, with over 900 lecturers, including 400 professors and associate professors. There are 20,000 full-time students in SAU. The university has over 50,000 graduates, whose competence, loyalty and achievements have been well accepted by the society. A great number of them are now working as senior engineers or executives. The recent employment of the graduates has been maintained at the average of 95.7%. The innovative spirit of the university could be traced back as early as the 1950s, when its independently developed aircraft Shenhang No. 1 flew into the sky successfully. Since 1990s, SAU has been successively awarded the Torch Research-oriented University by Shenyang Municipal Government. Aiming at developing the students' full potentials, the university actively establishes outstanding clubs and takes part in a variety of high-level scientific activities, which results in the students' achievements in various contests, such as the Aircraft Model Contest, Mathematics Modeling Contest, Challenge Cup, Mechanical Design Contest, Electronic Design Contest, English Speaking Contest, Environment Art Design Contest and Industrial Design Contest. Every year, the university sends lecturers abroad for study, academic exchanges and scientific cooperation. Close academic and cooperative ties have thus been established between SAU and foreign institutions, which extends more than 30 universities from countries, such as the USA, UK, Russia, Australia, Korea, Japan, etc. Undergraduate schools
