Outstanding Pearson IGCSE Success 🎉
We are delighted to share another exceptional set of results from the Pearson IGCSE June 2026 examination series!
Our students have once again demonstrated outstanding ability, dedication and academic excellence across Mathematics, Languages and the Arts.
The Results at a Glance
• 42.1% of grades were A*
• 68.4% of grades were A*–A
• 89.5% of grades were A*–C
• 100% pass rate across all entries
Over two-thirds of all entries achieved an A* or A, with every single entry receiving a passing grade.

Celebrating Outstanding IGCSE Success 🎉
We are delighted — and enormously proud — to share the outstanding IGCSE results achieved by our Year 11 students in the June 2026 examination series!
Across every subject, our students demonstrated determination, curiosity and academic excellence. These results are a wonderful reflection of their hard work and commitment over the past two years.
Several students produced truly exceptional results this year, and we want to celebrate them by name.
Chihiro: Four A*s in Physics, ICT, Literature in English and History.
Shaswat: A* grades in Literature in English, Physics and First Language English.
Jessica: Including an A* in Chinese as a Second Language.
Denis: A*s in Mandarin and Physics, with no result below a C.
Anthony: An outstanding 99 Uniform Mark in Mandarin Chinese, one of the highest individual marks achieved in this year's results.
Beyond individual achievement, several subject areas produced brilliant results across the board. Mandarin Chinese achieved a 100% A* pass rate, Literature in English saw every single student graded B or above, and Physics saw half of all entries awarded the top A* grade. These results reflect not only student effort but the dedication of our teaching teams in these departments.
As our Year 11 students progress into Year 12 and begin their A Level studies, we congratulate every one of them on this fantastic achievement. We look forward to seeing them continue to grow, challenge themselves and thrive.

Welcome Back to School 2026–2027
Our school gates reopened today for the start of another academic year. It was a pleasure to welcome back returning students and to greet those joining our community for the first time.
After the summer break, the campus was full of activity once again, with the usual mix of conversations, reuniting with friends and the general buzz of the new school year. A number of spaces around the school have also been refreshed over the summer, providing improved facilities for learning and for students to work and socialise together.
For returning students, today was an opportunity to reconnect with friends and staff and to settle back into familiar routines, alongside a few changes to discover. For those new to the school, today involved a great deal that was unfamiliar: new surroundings, new teachers and new classmates. We hope they were made to feel welcome by staff and students alike.
The start of the school year marks more than a return to lessons. It is a chance for the whole community to come together, to build on existing friendships and to form new ones, and to look ahead to the opportunities of the year to come.
To our returning students: welcome back. To those joining us for the first time: welcome to the school.

Britannica International School is proud to announce an outstanding set of examination results this year. Every Year 13 student achieved a full set of formal qualifications and received multiple university offers — a result that places the school firmly as a leading provider of A Level education in Shanghai. The Year 12 cohort produced equally impressive AS Level results, giving them a formidable platform as they enter their final year and begin their own university applications.

Year 13 students achieved a 100% pass rate across the entire cohort. Every student received multiple university offers, reflecting both the calibre of their achievement and the breadth of opportunity now open to them. Such consistency across the creative arts, modern languages and mathematics is a rare achievement, and it speaks directly to the strength, breadth and rigour of the Britannica curriculum, and to the calibre of the teaching that underpins it.

Year 12 students matched this standard of excellence, completing their AS Levels with a 100% pass rate and laying an outstanding foundation for the year ahead, as they move into A Level study and begin the university application process.
Results included 100% grades A–C in Business, Chinese, Computer Science, English Language, History, Media Studies, Physics and Psychology — a strong and broad-based performance across the sciences, humanities and creative disciplines.

Academic Year 25-26 Reflections from the Principal: Held to a Global Standard.

Accreditation is not the most glamorous topic for a reflection article, but it matters enormously, so I make no apology for devoting one to it.

This year Britannica underwent its COBIS accreditation review, an external, rigorous evaluation of every aspect of school life: teaching quality, safeguarding, governance, pastoral care, and leadership.

It is not a process any school can talk its way through. Inspectors spend days in classrooms, in meetings, in conversation with staff, students and parents, testing whether what we say about ourselves is actually true.

I am pleased to say the review reflected extremely well on the school, and more importantly, it gave us honest, specific feedback on where we can continue to improve.

Why does this matter to families? Because it is independent verification, not our own marketing, of the standards we hold ourselves to. It tells you that the safeguarding processes are robust, that the teaching is genuinely strong, and that the school is well led and well governed, because someone outside the school checked.

In a market with many international schools making similar promises, that external accountability is one of the clearest ways to tell the difference between a school that talks about quality and one that has had it independently confirmed.

Academic Year 25-26 Reflections from the Principal: Red Lanterns and New Beginnings.

Few events on our calendar generate quite the same excitement as Chinese New Year. Weeks before the holiday itself, corridors fill with red and gold. Students design lanterns in Art. Assemblies explain the meaning behind traditions many already know well and others are encountering for the first time.

This year's celebrations included a whole-school assembly, classroom activities exploring the customs and stories behind the festival, and a shared sense of anticipation that built for days beforehand.

What I value most about how we mark Chinese New Year is that it is not treated as a novelty for our international families to observe from the outside. It is a celebration led with genuine warmth by our Chinese students and staff, and joined enthusiastically by everyone else. That is exactly how a festival like this should work in a school like ours. Rooted in its home culture, shared generously with the wider community.

Being based in Shanghai gives our students something money cannot buy: the chance to experience one of the world's great cultural traditions firsthand, not from a textbook, but from the people around them who live it every year.

Academic Year 25-26 Reflections from the Principal: When Parents Become Teachers.

One of the quieter successes of this year has been our parent lesson programme, and I want to give it the attention it deserves. The idea is simple. Parents from our community, drawing on their own careers and passions, come into school to lead a lesson or a workshop for our students.

This year that has meant a parent in finance walking our Sixth Form through how markets actually work, a parent architect setting a design challenge for Year 8, and a parent doctor talking frankly with our senior students about a career in medicine.
What strikes me every time is how differently students listen to a guest from how they listen to a familiar teacher, however excellent that teacher is. There is something about hearing 'this is how it works in the real world, from someone who does it' that lands differently.

It has been good for our parent community too. It turns the relationship between home and school into something more active than drop-off and pick-up conversations.

I would like to see this programme grow further next year, and I would encourage any parent reading this, with a skill or a story worth sharing, to get in touch.

Academic Year 25-26 Reflections from the Principal: Ten Languages, One Community.
Ask a student at Britannica how many languages they are learning, and you will often get an answer that surprises visitors: three, sometimes four, alongside the ten different mother-tongue and foreign languages taught across our school. That range is not a curiosity. It is a statement about what we believe children are capable of.

Language learning is difficult, occasionally frustrating, and enormously valuable. It sharpens memory, builds empathy, and gives students a genuine window into cultures beyond their own.

This year I have sat in on Mandarin classes where beginners were proudly stringing together their first full sentences, and in mother-tongue classes where students were maintaining fluency in a language spoken nowhere else in their daily life here in Shanghai. Both matter equally.

Our commitment to mother-tongue provision alongside English, Spanish and Mandarin is one of the things that sets an international school like ours apart. It tells every family, whatever language is spoken at home, that their child's identity is welcome here, not something to be set aside at the school gate.

Ten languages under one roof is a considerable logistical undertaking. It is also, I think, one of the clearest expressions of what this school stands for.

Academic Year 25-26 Reflections from the Principal: More Than a Match.
There is a particular kind of energy on a Saturday morning when our teams are travelling to fixtures across Shanghai. Kit bags by the door. Nervous laughter on the coach. Parents lining touchlines in the cold with flasks of tea and coffee.

It would be easy to talk about sport at Britannica purely in terms of results, and it has been a strong year on that front. But the results are not really the point.
What I notice, watching from the sidelines, is what happens to a shy Primary student who finds their footing in a team for the first time. Or the senior student who discovers, through captaining a side, that leadership is something they are genuinely good at.

Sport teaches things a classroom cannot: how to lose gracefully, how to trust teammates, how to keep going when your legs say stop. Our PE and sports staff have worked hard this year to widen participation, not just sharpen our strongest athletes, and that shows in how many students now describe themselves as 'sporty' who would never have used that word before.

That shift, more than any trophy, is the one I am proudest of.

Academic Year 25-26 Reflections from the Principal: Opportunities Without Limits.

One of the questions I enjoy asking students is: “What was your favourite part of the year?” The answers are rarely what I expect. Some mention performances. Others talk about sporting events, leadership opportunities or school trips.
Occasionally, a student mentions something that happened during an ordinary lesson.

The variety of answers is always encouraging. It reminds me that no single experience defines a great education. What matters is providing students with enough opportunities to discover what inspires them.

This year, students had opportunities to explore music, drama, sport, leadership, languages, creativity and community service. Some embraced activities they already loved. Others tried something entirely new. The most rewarding moments often occurred when students surprised themselves. A reluctant performer discovered they enjoyed being on stage. A hesitant athlete developed confidence through competition. A quiet student found their voice through leadership. These moments cannot be planned with precision. They occur when students are given opportunities and the confidence to embrace them.

One of the responsibilities of schools is to create environments where those discoveries can happen. We cannot predict exactly where a student's talents will emerge. What we can do is ensure they have the chance to find out.

Looking back over the year, I am grateful for the breadth of experiences available to our students. More importantly, I am grateful for the enthusiasm with which they embraced them.
