Class of 2026 grad Samy fell in love with theatre in Year 10 and hasn't looked back since. Now he's graduating Wellington Shanghai with offers from top US performing arts programmes at USC, Emerson College and CalArts.
What makes theatre special? According to Samy: "You can see a whole different world and yet draw so much parallel to what life is actually like."
Our teachers recognised Samy's talent and gave him countless opportunities to grow—from creating characters for audition pieces to performing on stage. This is what happens when passion meets support.
Watch Samy as he shares his story, his preparation rituals and why there's nothing quite like the magic of live performance.

Contact information, map and directions, contact form, opening hours, services, ratings, photos, videos and announcements from Wellington College International Shanghai, School, 1500 Yaolong Road, Shanghai.
Opened in August 2014 and located in the New Bund area, Wellington College International Shanghai is a fully co-educational day school with over 1600 pupils, aged 2 to 18 years old.
This Children's Day, we sat down with our Wellington students to ask them some of life's biggest questions: Is it more fun being a child or a grown-up? What would you do if you became an adult today? Do you have any worries right now?
Their answers are refreshingly honest, wonderfully funny, and deeply insightful. From dreams of drinking coffee and buying phones, to fears about Chinese tests and changing diapers, to the simple joy of "running and playing every day"—these conversations remind us why childhood is so precious.
Our Wellington Shanghai community has a special message for the Class of 2026. Congratulations from everyone who has been privileged to be part of your journey. We can't wait to see what's next for you! 🎓
When Rundi joined Wellington in 2014, both he and the school were just beginning their journeys.
12 years later, he is preparing for a new chapter at Emory University, where he will study History.
For Rundi, the connection between the two paths is a natural one. History is not simply about looking back — it is about understanding decisions, patterns and consequences. Consulting, he says, draws on many of the same skills: listening carefully, learning from what has come before and helping others make better choices for what comes next.
During his time at Wellington, Rundi has grown alongside the school. From the orchestra to robotics, hackathons, computer science career talks and the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award, he has taken every opportunity to challenge himself, collaborate with others and discover where his interests might lead.
In this video, Rundi reflects on what 12 years at Wellington have meant to him, how he approached the university application process, and the advice he would give to younger pupils beginning that journey themselves.
Watch Rundi’s story, and stay tuned for more videos in our series!

A Look Behind the Scenes of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat!
Learning takes centre stage at Wellington—especially when our pupils take to the stage. Our Senior School production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a prime example. Through this celebrated Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, pupils developed skills in music, choreography, set design, sound and lighting technology and so much more.
Along the way, they grew in confidence and discovered the true value of teamwork—skills that AI cannot replicate.
Watch the video to catch a glimpse of the commitment and creativity our pupils brought to the stage.
Have you ever wondered how a single bamboo shoot can grow into an enriching, interdisciplinary Chinese lesson?
In Chinese culture, bamboo is a symbol we're all familiar with, but at Wellington, it's taken on a whole new role. With the guidance of their teachers, pupils are using bamboo as a gateway to connect deeply with language, culture, science and art.
Imagine delving into why bamboo grows so quickly or discovering its presence in timeless poetry. Picture creating art, dancing with bamboo poles and writing reflective essays—all with bamboo as the centrepiece. Through this mix of activities, children naturally use the Chinese language to explore their world.
Join Alina and Aiden as they dive into the Chinese Bamboo Project and discover just how much you can learn from a single bamboo shoot.
