Yes or No in Chinese 🇨🇳

Chinese doesn't have one single word for "yes" or "no". Instead, you answer a question by repeating its key word (yes) or adding 不 in front of it (no):

是 / 不是 shì / bú shì: Yes / No
对 / 不对 duì / bú duì: Yes / No

For other questions, you just echo back the verb itself:

可以 / 不可以 kěyǐ / bù kěyǐ: Can / Cannot
要 / 不要 yào / bú yào: Want / Don't want
喜欢 / 不喜欢 xǐhuan / bù xǐhuan: Like / Don't like
