The 2026 Fudan-Cambridge Global Humanities Conference has wrapped up at , held from September 11 to 13, bringing together scholars from the University of Cambridge, the University of Leeds, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Sun Yat-sen University, Nankai University, Shanghai International Studies University, Shanghai Normal University and other institutions.

Under the theme "The Pre-modern in the Post-Modern: Global Humanities and the Transmission of Ideas," the scholars explored how ancient texts, objects, practices and ways of knowing live on — and are reborn — in today's global humanities.

From cross-regional exchange to dialogue among civilisations, this is what the Global Humanities Network is all about. 💫

On September 18, President JIN Li met with Finland's Minister of Science and Culture Mari-Leena Talvitie.

Minister Talvitie thanked Fudan for its warm reception and noted that the Nordic Centre at Fudan has long been a platform for students, researchers, and universities to grow together. She reaffirmed Finland's commitment to deepening higher education and research cooperation with China.

Finnish university leaders and Fudan faculty leaders held in-depth discussions on educational cooperation.

's newest class came together for 2026 China Immersion Week — their first in-person learning journey, stepping into Chinese classrooms, industry sites, and city spaces to explore business, technology, and the future.

For Jean Mozard Assoumou from Côte d'Ivoire, the speed of China's tech development left a deep impression — and sparked a bigger question:

"Why has China been able to develop so fast? Can we bring these lessons back to our own country?"

Through every observation and conversation, he began connecting China's experience with Africa's development — asking how technology could create more value for businesses, families, and communities across Africa.

For Mozard, the biggest takeaway wasn't just knowledge. It was a shift in mindset.

He came hoping to better understand business logic. He left seeing more possibilities for the future.

DING Wenchao once helped build Huawei's ADS autonomous driving prediction and decision-making system — technology that reached million-level mass production.

In 2023, he joined to push deeper into embodied intelligence.

This year, he was named to MIT Technology Review's 2025 "35 Innovators Under 35" (TR35) China list, for exploring new technological paths for the scaling of general-purpose robots.

Now he's on a new path: co-founder and chief scientist of TARS (它石智航), a startup focused on embodied intelligence that has raised nearly ¥5 billion in just one year.

His core idea is simple but radical: "There is already the strongest agent in this world — the human. So why not learn directly from human data?"

To make this real, his team built SenseHub, a wearable data collection device. Worn on the human body, it captures gaze, conversation, and action in real, complex environments — low-cost, high-efficiency data that can train embodied models at an industrial scale.

Under his AWE (AI World Engine) model, the company has already deployed robots in real industrial settings — including precision wiring harness assembly and collaborative inspection. Not demos. Real production lines.

From industry, to academia, to entrepreneurship: a long-termist's path. 🚀

For nearly 100 years, the name “Shi Maiguo” lived only as a sound in a Malaysian Chinese family — a Hokkien pronunciation passed down by word of mouth, with no written characters, no map to point the way back.

His great-granddaughter Kong Jing Lam grew up hearing that sound. Then she and her classmates at built an AI tool that helped turn it into a place.

On August 23, the homecoming came a century late. Kong's grandmother and her siblings — Shi Maiguo's four children, all born in Malaysia — crossed the sea to the land their father left as a boy of 12. Together, the elders were nearly 300 years old.

Inside the Shi Ancestral Hall in Longmen, China's Fujian Province, with Hokkien all around them, the distance melted. They visited the old family house. They paid respects to local deities. They shared a meal with relatives they had never met.

Standing on their ancestors' soil, they said what Shi Maiguo never could: “I'm home.” ❤️

At the recent 2026 Pujiang Innovation Forum, Timon Rabczuk, founding director of 's Institute of Computational Mechanics X AI, shared his latest thinking on the deep integration of AI and modeling & simulation.

His key message? Looking real is not the same as being right.

Generative AI world models like Genie 3 and Cosmos can produce stunningly realistic scenes from a text prompt at near-zero cost, but they don't guarantee conservation of mass, momentum, or energy. They struggle beyond their training data and can't reliably capture fracture, fatigue, or failure. Physics-based simulation — finite element analysis, CFD, molecular dynamics — gives us conservation laws and validated material models, and it's what aircraft, bridges, and reactors are certified on. But it's slow, expert-dependent, and rarely real-time or differentiable.

The next step, Rabczuk argues, is to develop differentiable solvers, build surrogate models trained on validated solver data, and establish standards for certifying AI-generated results — pushing simulation toward being physically correct and faster than real-time, and ultimately toward digital twins.

They also visited the former residence of Ma Xiangbo, founder of Fudan University, Sijing Town. A day full of history, innovation, and inspiration. 🏛️💡
