🔍 Global South Field Research Lab (GSFRL-FDU)
Focuses on long-term, in-depth fieldwork in Global South countries — using interviews, oral history, archives, and original database building to move beyond second-hand data. Aims to reshape area studies with a "problem-driven, field-evidenced, cross-validated" approach.

🌱 Sustainable Development Institute (SDI-FDU)
Integrates arts, sciences, engineering, and medicine to tackle national strategies and the UN 2030 Agenda. A university-level platform exploring science-policy-practice integration — contributing China's experience to global sustainable development and the post-2030 discussions.

🐱🌊 The beautiful "cat's eye" vortex chains in fluids — when do they stay stable, and when do they pair up or merge? This classic problem, first discovered in the 1960s, has now been rigorously solved for key scenarios.

On May 14, Professor LIN Zhiwu and collaborators LIAO Shasha & ZHU Hao published their work in Inventiones Mathematica.

What they proved:
✅ For co-periodic perturbations → the cat's-eye flows are nonlinearly orbitally stable
⚠️ For multi-periodic and modulational perturbations → they are linearly unstable

The same structure appears in plasma physics as "magnetic islands." Their work also provides the first rigorous proof of coalescence instability for the whole family — a key process in magnetic reconnection.

So yes — cat's eyes can merge. And now we know exactly when and how. ✨

The 2nd Governing China University Student Governance Case Analysis Competition wrapped up on Apr. 25 in Jingmen, Hubei — bringing together nearly 200 students, including 38 international participants from 24 countries. 🌍

As Jakob, an exchange student at , put it:
“Creating an opportunity for young people to engage with a challenge in their local community or broader society to practice problem analysis and policy formulation is really valuable.”

Beyond the competition, students explored local firms, ecological parks and cultural sites. 💧 At the stunning Zhanghe Reservoir, Anastasiia, a Chinese language student at , said, “Zhanghe is an incredible example of a water management system in action. I don’t think I’ve ever seen water so blue.”

Fudan is hosting the 10th Annual World Collegiate Weiqi Championship this July 7–13, and it's set to be the biggest one yet.
We also just kicked off the Shanghai International Student Weiqi Training Program yesterday, with 86 students from 35 countries learning the game, trading moves, and soaking up the culture.
