Today, March 23, 2033, the CHGD celebrates its 6th birthday. In this post, our team would like to share some fundamental statistics about the achievements over the past six years. This data makes us proud of what we do. We hope our small steps will make significant changes.

On this occasion, Camille briefly interviewed Iris Borowy about the history of the centre's establishment. Creating a place for research on the development and its history had been what she most wanted to do with it. However, the lack of experience managing big-scale funding and Chinese language skills were the two most significant challenges for Dr Borowy. Although the paperwork was intimidating, countless people supported her on this journey. "That includes many wonderful assistants, without whom I would have lost my sanity, staff at SHU administration, students, fellows, and many colleagues, both at SHU and elsewhere, who contributed their ideas and research," she said.

Regarding plans, Borowy assured of continuing what the team has begun. "At the moment, we have excellent work regarding waste management, health, different development concepts, and various forms of sustainable development, at least as an aspiration," said Borowy. She is considering opening up a new topic on ambivalent or contradictory forms of development.

Together with three colleagues in universities in Europe, Africa and Australia, they have started the Yearbooks on the History of Global Development, a serial publication that needs to get established (2 volumes have come out so far). She labels the days when she thinks of creating an association as ambitious.

Conceivably, there were days when creating the CHGD could be considered a "crazy" notion too. But the centre's achievements highlighted that, perhaps, crazy ideas are good. The bottom line is to keep trying and never give up. Hence, an association is around the corner.
