Snacks, juice, badges, toys… and plenty of young entrepreneurial spirit!

This Children's Day, Hefei Thomas School came alive with the 7th “Virtue Nurtures Young Hearts” Youth Mini-Entrepreneurship Flea Market. Students took charge of every step of the process—from designing and packaging products to promoting them and managing sales.

At Ambright, we believe that some of the most meaningful learning happens when students are actively engaged. By turning ideas into products and products into sales, students gained practical insights into management, investment, and financial literacy while building confidence and teamwork skills.

The event also had a special purpose. Proceeds from the flea market will be donated to a rehabilitation center for children with autism, helping bring care and support to more families in need.

A day filled with creativity and kindness—just the way Children's Day should be.

What leaves the strongest impression during an international school visit?

For many of the principals from Malaysian Chinese schools visiting Shanghai Thomas School this week, it was not a single presentation or campus facility, but the chance to see how educational ideas are put into practice every day.

On the third day of the “Deepening Bonds, Meeting in Shanghai” Study Tour, the principals joined representatives from Ambright Education Group for a thoughtful discussion on international education, student development, and the future of learning.

During the session, Chairman of Ambright Education Group Sean Wuhua Zhang shared how the International Advanced Study Curriculum (IASC), an international high school curriculum developed in China, is gaining increasing global recognition. Vice President of Shanghai Thomas School Huiying Xu also introduced their approach to holistic education — from helping teachers adapt to new technologies, to creating systems that support student wellbeing, safety, and personal growth.

Many participants shared that the exchange had given them new insights into education in China and expressed hopes for more opportunities to continue exchanging ideas in the future.

“Who would like to explore other cities in China?”

At this question, every hand in the room went up.

On the third day of the “Deepening Bonds, Meeting in Shanghai” Study Tour, admissions officers from Zhejiang University, Nanjing University 南京大学, and Xi'an JiaoTong University visited Shanghai Thomas School to meet with principals from Malaysian Chinese high schools.

The principals actively raised questions about student life in China—covering admission pathways, tuition fees, and living arrangements.

As the conversation developed, it naturally turned into a comparative exploration of China’s diverse educational landscape. This sparked a broader curiosity—not only about universities, but also about how different cities in China shape various lifestyles, cultures, and everyday experiences, from local food to regional traditions.

This lively exchange created a positive atmosphere that may open up further opportunities for dialogue between Chinese universities and Malaysian Chinese schools on future student pathways and school-level cooperation.

“Among all shapes with the same perimeter, the circle has the largest area. That’s why circular hugs are the biggest!”

The morning of Day 3 of the “Deepening Bonds, Meeting in Shanghai” Study Tour took Malaysian Chinese high school principals to Shanghai Thomas School, where AI-powered learning is already part of everyday classroom life.

In a lively mathematics lesson, students used AI to construct rectangles and explore how changing side lengths affects area. By adjusting and transforming shapes themselves, they gradually discovered an interesting principle: when the perimeter stays the same, the circle has the largest area.

How to put this principle into practice?

The students’ answer was simple yet touching: to welcome the visiting principals with hugs, because “a circular hug is the biggest.”

The room instantly filled with laughter, warmth, and applause. It was one of the most touching moments of the entire visit. It was a beautiful example of how learning can connect knowledge with empathy and human connection.

Later, the principals also met with the coordinators of the school’s Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Integrated Biology, English, and Technology (IBET) programmes.

Ms. Zeng, formerly an automotive engineer for over ten years, shared how PBL develops virtues, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, and global citizenship. Moreover, students can also learn an important lesson through projects: mistakes are not failures, but opportunities to discover problems and improve together.

Ms. Jiang explained that IBET transforms PBL ideas into concrete courses. Teachers do not provide answers; instead, they guide students to refine their own questions, develop project designs, and find solutions independently.

🌏✨ Day 2 of the “Deepening Bonds, Meeting in Shanghai” Study Tour brought our Malaysian Chinese High School Principals to two of China’s most prestigious universities: Fudan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University!

The Principals learned more about how Malaysian students can apply to top Chinese universities and the exciting opportunities waiting for them in Shanghai. 🇲🇾🇨🇳

But perhaps the most memorable part of the day was hearing directly from Malaysian students currently studying in China. Their stories were filled with warmth, excitement, and gratitude.

The word they mentioned most often? “Convenience.”

They shared how professors and classmates are always willing to help, how comfortable the dormitories are, and how much they enjoy the food on campus. They also spoke about the value of China’s general education approach, which provides students with lots of opportunities to explore different disciplines. Moreover, their professors also encourage them to pursue interdisciplinary learning.

Outside the classroom, Shanghai’s modern lifestyle has also impressed them deeply. With the city’s subway system and shared bicycles, getting around is easy, safe, and efficient — making it simple to experience the energy of this global metropolis. 🚇🚲

Their advice to younger students considering studying in China:
Don’t worry, because everything here is far better than you might expect! 💙
