In Persian, we have a punchy idiom for that: "Roo-ye kasi ro kam kardan" (روی کسی را کم کردن).
📖 Literal translation: "To reduce someone's face."
🎯 What it actually means: To humble someone, to put an arrogant person in their place, or to prove someone wrong through your actions and success.
In Iranian culture, "Face" or "Roo" is a big deal—it represents your social standing and confidence. When you "reduce" someone’s face, you're essentially stripping away their bluff or overconfidence by outshining them! 💎
When to use it?
Imagine someone is bragging about their skills, and then you show up and do it ten times better without saying a word. That’s exactly when you've "reduced their face"! 🤫
Cultural Fun Fact:
This concept is very similar to the Chinese idea of "Losing Face" (丢脸). It shows how deeply both cultures value humility and social respect.
