노팅엄 대학교는 영국 상위 10대 대학, 유럽 상위 30대 대학, 세계 상위 1% 내에 드는 대학 가운데 하나로 꼽히는 글로벌 명문대학 입니다. 영국 노팅엄에 위치한 본교캠퍼스와 함께 중국 저장성 닝보, 말레이시아 쿠알라룸푸르에 글로벌 캠퍼스를 가지고 있습니다.

노팅엄 대학교는 연구 중심 대학들의 모임으로 영국의 아이비리그라 불리는 러셀 그룹(Russell Group)에 속하며 연구 집중 대학의 국제 네트워크인 우니베르시타스 21(Universitas 21), 교육관련 자선단체인 서튼 트러스트(Sutton Trust), 유럽대학연합(European University Association) 회원대학입니다. 에너지, 우주공학 약물 개발, 생명공학 이미징 등의 연구 분야를 포함해 다양한 핵심 연구전략 분야가

유명하며 자기공명영상장치(MRI) 분야에서 지속적인 발전을 계속해온 학제간 연구(Interdisciplinarity: 어떤 대상을 연구할 때 서로 다른 여러 학문 분야에 걸쳐 제휴하여 참여하는 연구)로도 정평이 나 있습니다.

무명의 기부자가 기부한 10파운드를 기초로 대학 설립을 위한 논의가 이루어진지 4년후인 1881년, 노팅엄 도심에 최초의 서민 대학이 설립되었습니다. 제1차 세계대전 이후 성장을 거듭한 노팅엄대학은 1928년 제약회사 부트 사의 창시자인 제시 부트(Jesse Boot, 1850∼1931)가 기증한 14만 ㎡ 크기의 부지로 이전하면서 학교명을 유니버시티 파크(University Park)로 변경하였습니다. 개교 초기에 알베르트 아인슈타인(Albert Einstein), 마하트마 간디(Mahatma Gandhi), 영국 작가인 웰스(H G Wells, 1866~1946) 등이 교수로 재직했으며 1948년 영국 여왕으로부터 왕립헌장(Royal Charter)을 수여 받아 학위를 수여할 수 있게 되었습니다. 같은해 서튼 보닝턴(Sutton Bonington)에 있는 미들랜드 농업대학(Midland College of Agriculture)을 합병하여 농업대학을 세웠으며 1970년 의과대학이 신설되었습니다. 1995년 미드트렌트 간호조산대학(Mid-Trent College of Nursing and Midwifery)을 합병하여 간호대학을 설립, 1999년 주빌리 캠퍼스(Jubilee Campus)가 조성되었고 같은 해 말레이시아에 캠퍼스를 개설했습니다. 2005년 킹스메도 캠퍼스(King’s Meadow Campus)를 2005년 중국 닝보에 캠퍼스를 신설함으로써 중국에서 독립 캠퍼스를 보유한 최초의 외국 대학이 되었습니다.

2011년을 기준으로 예술학부, 공학부, 의학·보건학부, 과학학부, 사회과학부 등 5개 학부로 구성되었습니다. 개설 학과로는 사학과, 철학과, 러시아 및 슬로베니아 연구, 미국 및 캐나다 연구, 생물학, 물리학 및 천문학, 전기 및 전자공학, 현대중국연구, 지리학, 경영학과, 간호학, 임상과학 등 52개 학과가 있습니다. 대학 소속 연구소로 생명공학센터, 글로벌금융센터, 유전자 및 게놈센터, 영국정책센터 등 약 82개가 있다. 전 세계 150개국 국적을 지닌 3만 5,000명의 학생들이 영국, 중국, 말레이시아 캠퍼스에서 공부하고 있습니다다. 교환학생 프로그램으로는 유럽 내 23개국 215개 자매 대학과 체결한 에라스무스 프로그램, 유럽 외 지역 34개 자매 대학과 체결한 유니버시티 21(U21) 프로그램이 있습니다. RAE(Research Assessment Exercies, 연구성과평가) 26개 전공과목에서 5점을 획득하여 국제적으로 탁월함을 인정받았으며, 30개 이상의 전공과목 강의 수준에 대한 독립적인 평가(QTA)에서 우수 평가를 받았습니다. 2003년 자기공명영상장치(MRI) 분야에서 개척자적인 공로를 인정받아 노벨 의학상을 수상한 피터 맨스필드(Sir Peter Mansfield, 1933~)경이 노팅엄 대학 교수로 재직하였습니다.

2018 UNNC International Summer School organized by Global Engagement Office received our first group of students on June 26th. Their journey started from tasting Chinese culture to discovering the history of the city Ningbo. The students first visited Tianyi pavilion—one of the oldest private library in China and also the landmark of Ningbo which demonstrate the profound culture and knowledge reserve in this city.

Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed Falalu, 27 years old, a graduate in MSc Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management with Distinction from Nottingham University Business School China (NUBS China) in 2014 has been recently selected in Forbes Africa 30 under 30, 2018. Sadiq established FaLGates Rice Mill in 2012 and officially started operation in 2016. Sadiq’s company has provided jobs for over 180 people in Kaduna, Niger and Kebbi so far and the company’s turnover has achieved $ 450,000 in 2017.
