哈九中不仅成功跻身哈市省重点高中前三甲,还是百姓心目中信得过的品牌学校，形成了“一套班子、两岸办学、三种学制、五大特色”的办学新格局。两校区同步管理、共同发展，初中、高中、国际部三种学制并存，五大特色打造着九中的品牌：一是坚持“外语特色，文理并重，多元发展”，争创了黑龙江省唯一的“外语特色类国家项目试点学校”；二是面向世界、开放办学、与国际接轨，开设A-LEVEL国际课程，接纳留学生、开设韩语课堂，这标志着九中国际化办学进入“双向交流”新阶段；三是打造心理特色教育的品牌，雄厚的师资、专业的设施、特色的心理活动，成为九中教育教学的亮丽一景；四是江北校区住宿制学习模式坚持课题牵动与制度管理的“无缝连接”，寄宿制生活让师生心贴心；五是艺体特色教育争创“独一无二”，艺术教育在全省首创了美术沙画课，学生男女篮球队战绩辉煌，曾经在哈尔滨市获得十连冠。
九中办学规模不断扩大，现有98个教学班，学生近五千人，学校现有教师399人，其中研究生学历教师150人，特级教师、高级教师、全国优秀教师、省优秀教师、中青年专家、功勋教师158人，国家级骨干教师、省市级骨干教师、教学能手、省市学科带头人、省市兼职教研员143人，哈尔滨市第九中学汇聚了一支德才兼备、素质精良的教师队伍。
学校以"诚、实、搏、爱"为校训，素以"学校有特色，教师有特点，学生有特长"享誉社会，学校秉承"以人为本、以德正本、以学修本、以质固本"的办学理念，发扬"合作、包容、钻研、奉献"的九中精神，成为我省知名度较高的窗口学校。近年来，我校被评为全国文明单位、全国和谐校园先进学校、全国教育科研百强校、省“五一”劳动奖状先进集体、省十佳和谐校园、黑龙江优质教育金奖单位、市政府劳模单位等几十项荣誉称号。
九中的高考成绩全市闻明，一直名列省重点高中前列甚至榜首，在2013年高考中，九中再创辉煌，理科重点率达98.4%、文科重点率93.8%，本科率均100%，平均分603分，600分以上的学生310人。2012年高考文科平均分581.56分，重点率100%，理科平均分582.73分，重点率97%，并创造了2012年高考哈市九项第一的佳绩；2011年高考文科平均分588.94分，理科平均分608.69分，文、理科重点率分别为97.22%、93.2%，本科率100%，每年高考平均分都高于当年省重点线70分左右。我校还被国家留学基金委确定为留学生推荐选拔基地，哈尔滨市第九中学这个响亮的品牌让全国许多知名高校慕名而来，成为了近百所全国重点大学的生源基地。九中是黑龙江省篮球基点校，学生男女篮球队战绩辉煌，曾经在哈尔滨市获得十连冠，多次名列省篮球比赛前三名，曾经代表黑龙江省参加全国中学生篮球锦标赛并取得优异成绩。九中还争创了黑龙江省唯一的"外语特色类国家项目特色学校"，形成了“外语特色，文理并重，多元发展”的特色办学理念。
