Brings “Chinese + TCM” to New Zealand🇨🇳🇳🇿🌿

A ZCMU delegation led by Vice President Fan Xiaohui visited New Zealand’s South Island on April 11–12 to take part in the 3rd “Chinese Language+ TCM” Road Show, held in cities including Christchurch and Marlborough.✨

Through public talks, cultural displays, and hands-on experiences, the program helped more local communities learn Chinese, understand TCM, and connect with Chinese culture—a practical example of ZCMU’s growing international engagement and partnerships.🤝🌏

During the tour, ZCMU experts introduced TCM into everyday life with activities such as TCM consultations, pulse diagnosis, acupuncture and tuina, plus interactive sessions like Baduanjin, ear acupressure, herbal sachet/bead making, and wellness tea tasting—welcoming hundreds of participants.

📅Launched in 2024 and now in its third year, “Chinese + TCM” has become a recognizable cultural exchange program on the South Island, and ZCMU will continue working with local partners to expand TCM global outreach and deepen China–New Zealand cooperation in health, education, and culture.🌿🏫

New publication in PNAS!💡

➡️A team led by Prof. Chen Zhong and Researcher Wang Yi published the paper “Electroacupuncture-based vagal stimulation attenuates epileptic seizures through a body-brain circuit.” 🧠📄

The study reports that electroacupuncture applied to peripheral acupoints such as Dazhui (GV14) and Yaoqi (EXB9) can reduce epileptic seizures by engaging a specific “vagus nerve–brainstem–limbic system” pathway. 🧬

In doing so, the work establishes a direct link from surface stimulation to regulation of central epileptic networks, providing experimental evidence that may inform both acupuncture mechanisms and potential new strategies for epilepsy treatment.✨

🙌Voice of TCM | Tunisia: From a class to a long-term pathway✨

A program can’t rely on one person—or one semester. The next question was: how do we make “Chinese + TCM” sustainable even as teachers rotate?

➡️In Oct 2025, Niu Na returned with a wider focus—extending teaching through activities like cultural immersion days, where students practiced Chinese in real contexts and experienced TCM culture.

➡️In Nov 2025, Zhang Saijun arrived—bringing both clinical expertise and coordination experience. The team strengthened external support and pushed the curriculum toward standardization and continuity.

Key steps toward sustainability:⬇️
·Building a stable support network (teaching collaboration and cultural activity partnerships)
·Making courses more systematic and structured across grades
·Introducing ZCMU’s English-language “An Understanding on Traditional Chinese Medicine” as a learning backbone
·Hands-on training in 10+ TCM techniques with standardized assessment

✨Four young teachers, one shared road—quiet, steady, and moving forward day by day.💡
If you’d like to learn more about the program and collaboration, stay tuned.🤝

🙌Voice of TCM | Tunisia: Turning “Chinese + TCM” into one course✨

Interest is the spark—but mixed language levels quickly become the real challenge. How do you make sure every student can follow, speak, and apply?

➡️In Feb 2025, Chinese-language teacher Wang Lan arrived and introduced tiered teaching, designing different learning tracks for students across grades and proficiency levels. Step by step, TCM terms and scenarios were woven into language classes—building confidence to express basic medical ideas in Chinese.🌿

Then in Apr 2025, TCM practitioner Liu Liwei joined the team. Together, they co-designed lessons around the same students and goals—so language learning and TCM learning reinforced each other.💡

Classroom highlights:⬇️
·Turning abstract theory into familiar references (e.g., using pop culture examples to explain yin–yang balance)
·Case-based learning on common conditions to practice TCM diagnostic thinking
·Connecting with local knowledge to create cultural resonance

Students didn’t just “listen”—they started to participate, discuss, and explain.🤝

🙌Voice of TCM | Tunisia: Where Chinese begins, TCM enters✨

➡️Mediterranean sunlight, a classroom in Tunisia—pinyin on the wall, meridian lines on the board. This is where “Chinese + TCM” starts from zero.

In Oct 2023, ZCMU’s first dispatched international Chinese-language teacher Niu Na stepped into the classroom at Central University Tunisia. Students were curious—but unfamiliar characters and sounds could feel intimidating. Her approach was simple: make Chinese feel understandable, and worth learning.💡

What made the difference: ⬇️
·Story-based learning to break the barrier
·Building a “trust entrance”: once students enjoy understanding Chinese, they’re more ready to engage with TCM ideas
·A first step toward an integrated pathway where language supports professional learning

From one character to one connection, a new journey began.🤝
