Off to the supermarket, in Yulin, Shaanxi China!
On this day, the kids went on an educational English outing to the local supermarket.
Here they kesnted about all kinds of fruit and vegetable names.
Then they got to do some snack shopping. Then back to the classroom.
What a fun and educational outingnfor the kids!
Children learn and retain far more when they are having fun and going on an outing!

Inspiration can come from anywhere. It takes being yourself. That's the most important job you have on this planet.
Perhaps my large personality in the classroom may have inspired this student in Java, Indonesia?

In one of our first classes, he spontaneously presented me with this incredible artwork!
I'm grateful to have inspired him and may everybody's English grow every day!

Lessons from the wize octopus:

Today I met my student's new toy.
This is a reversable octopus plush.
The blue side is happy, the pink side is angry.
So when I met both sides, I asked the pink side, why are you angry. The pink side said, "The blue side and I are part of the same creature. So when he is happy, he is blue and smiling. When he is angry, he is pink and frowning."
I thought this tied neatly into the biology of an octopus:
1. They are able to change colour according to their moods.
2. They can fit into any space, through a hole the size of a penny. This explains his reversable nature.

Wisdom can come from lighthearted, playful moments.

On this day in Myanmar, I took the students outside for a market day.
They each receiced some fresh produce to sell.
Then half the class had a chance shopping from the other half.
Using vocabulary like:
May I have x, some/a few..... please?
Yes, sure! Here you are. It will be # # # Kyat please.
They had play money notes and had to issue the correct amount and the cirrrecr change, if needed.
Not only is this a really fun way for kids to play and practice high impact English speaking/fluency.
But this also practiced food vocabulary and maths: numbers/addition/subtraction/multiplication!
A great chance to get outside the classroom and have a fabulous time while learning English!

Today I met with my old friend. I am enjoying reading his book and I think there's a lot we can learn about our wonderful friends and essential companions, the bees.

I resonate with the clever comparisons and profound wisdoms that come through this book.

It was a great summer!

During my time teaching in Myanmar, I got an opportunity to play many fun and educational English games with my students.

In this class, the children learnt about
the 5 flavours:
Sweet
Sour
Spicy
Salty
Bitter

We played a fun game, where brave volunteers would be blindfolded. They would then taste safe foods containing one of these flavours. They would not be told which flavour it was, instead they would be asked to guess the flavour.

This is a fun and exciting game to play with children and adults. It provides great excitement and the element of surprise. Observing the tasters is as much fun as being the taster. Everyone has a ball!

Learning through fun imprints knowledge in the mind far better.
Memories from this lesson will be with the children for years to come.

Almost a decade ago I taught English and ECC Rama 2, Bangkok 🇹🇭 Thailand 🇹🇭. This is an English language centre for children and adult of all ages.
We had fun in class, while immerced in English learning. I was very happy to empower the people of Thailand with the skills of English. Giving them both the confidence and tools to listen, speak, read and write English.
