Dear PYZX Students & Alumni,
2019 is definitely a very uncertain year as there have been a series of protests taking place across the entire globe. As well-educated people, esp. students who are receiving higher education, it is essential for all of us to get equipped with the ability to identify what is true. Fake news and misleading info. are being spread highly rapidly online, leading to severe hatred and misunderstanding among people in different cities. This trend should be stopped ASAP.
Taking HK as an example, the ANTI-ELAB Protest was triggered in June by a controversial bill, which would allow people in HK to be extradited to mainland China. During the past five months, the movement was gradually changing from “peaceful” to “violent” because more and more protesters were wounded by gunshots and died by committing su***de. It is understandable that some of you may have different viewpoints on the protest, but no matter what your political stance is, the protest should NOT be blackened as a fight for independence or a fight organised by foreign forces. There are numerous factors behind this more and more radical demonstration. Before making a judgment, please think twice if you really know the demands of the protesters and also why the situation is getting worse.
Browsing the online forums and platforms in our country, it is clear that some media is now promoting one-sided info. to bend the truth. It is not a difficult task to fact-check this kind of info., but unfortunately, a majority of netizens still tend to rush to judgement based on it. Therefore, I sincerely hope that at least our students and alumni could avoid being misled by fake news.
Once again, it is absolutely okay for all of you to have different viewpoints. However, I must emphasise that everyone should make a judgement based on fact-checked info. instead of misleading one. As a member of our PYZX community, please stay rational, patient, and critical.
Best regards,
PYZX FB Admin.
