STUDY @ SMU | 2025 CSC-Silk Road Program
I. Program Overview
1. Student type: Master's candidates
2. Major: Clinical Medicine, Basic Medical Sciences, Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Biomedical Engineering or Dentistry
(Please refer to the Attachment 1: 2025 Degree Programs for CSC-Silk Road Program of Southern Medical University)
3. Application Deadline: May 5th, 2025.
II. Scholarship Coverage
Coverage includes tuition fees, accommodation fees, living allowance, and comprehensive medical insurance.
Specific standards are subject to the information published by the China Scholarship Council (http://www.campuschina.org) for the corresponding year.
The scholarship awardees’ academic performance will be assessed each year and the result will be submitted to Chinese Scholarship Council. Students must pass the annual assessment for receiving the scholarship in the following year, or else the scholarship will be suspended or canceled.
III. Eligibility
1.Citizens of Belt and Road partner countries who are not Chinese nationals and hold valid foreign passports.
2. Applicants should be physically and mentally healthy, and meet the medical examination standards for applying for a study visa or residence permit in China.
3. Applicants should be under the age of 35, with a degree comparable to the Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese universities.
4. Applicants should have good conduct, without any record of violation of school rules and regulations, nor any record of public security punishment or criminal record.
5. Applicants should have excellent grades and clear purpose of studying in China, with a GPA of 3.0 or above in the previous academic year without failing or repeated subjects.
6. Language Proficiency Requirements
Chinese Medium Program: Applicants must reach a score above 180 in HSK 5 or provide other comparable certificates proving Chinese proficiency.
English Medium Program: Applicants from non-English-speaking countries must reach a score above 90 in TOEFL (20 or above for each item) or 6.5 in IELTS (6.0 or above for each item); or provide other comparable certificates proving English proficiency.
Applicants from English-speaking countries or receiving the last degree with the instruction in English are exempt from submitting the English proficiency certificates, but the certificate of English medium issued by the school graduated from shall be provided.
★ Applicants for professional Master's Degree in Clinical Medicine (1051), Dentistry (1052), Traditional Chinese Medicine (1057) are required to provide a certificate of 180 points or above in HSK Level 5 (inclusive) or equivalent Chinese language proficiency upon admission. Graduation thesis must be written in Chinese (English translation version can be attached). For specific majors, please refer to 2025 Degree Programs for CSC-Silk Road Program of Southern Medical University.
★ Applicants for academic Master's Degree in Clinical Medicine (1002) and Dentistry (1003) are required to provide a certificate of 180 points or above in HSK Level 4 (inclusive) or equivalent Chinese language proficiency upon admission. For specific majors, please refer to 2025 Degree Programs for CSC-Silk Road Program of Southern Medical University.
IV.Application Procedures
Online Application
1. Applicants shall make online application at Chinese Government Scholarship Information System (https://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/). The Agency No. of Southern Medical University is 12121, Program Category is Type B.
2. Applicants also need to register at SMU International Students Management System (https://fimmu.at0086.cn/Student). Fill in the application information and upload the required application materials.
Appilication Materials
1. Scanned copy of valid passport’s information page;
2. Scanned copy of notarized highest Academic Degree Certificate, Expected Graduation Certificate for fresh graduates (original one and English-translated one. After being pre-admitted, applicants are required to submit final Graduation Certificate to be eligible for official admission);
3. Scanned copies of transcript of all courses during the highest academic degree education (original one and English-translated one);
4. Study Plan: A minimum of 1000 words written in Chinese (Chinese medium applicants) or English (English medium applicants). The content includes personal studying and working experiences, academic research achievements, research and learning plans during master or doctoral study, personal developing goals after graduation, etc.;
5. Two original copies of recommendation letters written by professors or associate professors in Chinese or English (with signatures and contact information);
6. Provisional Acceptance Letter from a professor of Southern Medical University;
7. Scanned copy of Foreigner's Physical Examination Form completed in Chinese or English;
8. Certificate of language proficiency.
9. Police Clearance Certificate
10. ID photo (2-inch blue background photo without hats);
11. English or Chinese self-introduction video (3-5 minutes, no more than 50M);
12.Other documents: CV (personal details, educational qualifications and academic awards, professional affiliations and memberships, employment history, or other research experience and research outputs), Publications.

V. Selection and Notification
The University will review the completeness and authenticity of the applicant’s materials and adopt the following methods for assessment according to the situation of the applicants and major requirements: (1) Interview or (2) Written Examination and Interview.
The way of assessment, time and other matters will be published by the School of International Education till further notice.
Scholarship decisions will be made on the basis of the applicants’ application documents, academic performance, research achievements, assessment results and supervisors’ comments. The final list of nominees will be submitted to China Scholarship Council (CSC) for final approval.
The result will be published on SMU International Students Management System.
Scholarship recipients can not change major of study, duration of study or language of instruction once they get admitted.
