Amos Johnson was an early 20th-century black guitar player from Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. I'm not aware of any recordings of Johnson, but this tune circulated amongst other guitarists in the region. Mose Rager learned it directly from Johnson, and then shared it with Merle Travis, who later arranged and recorded the tune, retitled as "Guitar Rag." Tennessee guitarist Sam McGee also played the tune though he also learned it from an intermediate source, and not from Johnson directly.

Proud of my student Kenzo’s work on the piano. We started working together two years ago on blues, stride, and early jazz styles. Here he is playing jazz pioneer Jelly Roll Morton’s piece “Grandpa’s Spells.”
We worked on this like a typical jazz chart: starting with sheet music showing only a single-note melody and chord names written above. Then we filled out the arrangement using techniques common to the style, and based on Morton’s own playing. As if that wasn’t enough, Kenzo shot and edited this video himself too! Way to go!
