Galileo Galilei Italian Institute Chongqing Academic and cultural bridge between Italy and China, Pisa and Chongqing. Our institute has taught more than 300 students.

We believe in scientific and people-to-people diplomacy and we do our best everyday to connect science and competences at a transnational level The Galileo Galilei Italian Institute (GGII) at Chongqing University was officially inaugurated on the 9th of December 2007 and is one of the results of the cooperation agreement signed between Chongqing University and Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in 2004. T

he Finmeccanica Holding Group, which prides itself as one of Italy’s largest enterprises, and Intesa Sanpaolo, the biggest banking group in Italy, jointly supported the institute in the past years. The Institute takes pride in being named after the founding father of modern science, Galileo Galilei, who was active in Pisa and Florence more than four centuries ago. We are the only CILS (Certificate of Italian as Foreign Language) official language examination center in all of South West China. Team members at the Institute are also readily available to provide information to foreign companies seeking new opportunities locally as well as Chinese companies seeking to enter the European market. Our office develops multiple training projects in cooperation with local partners to promote joint research activities in the academic and industrial sectors. As a bridge between China and Italy, our aim is to promote deeper understanding between our two ancient and fascinating cultures. Since its inauguration, the institute has organized several cultural events to demonstrate the magnificence of Italian filmography, fashion, cultural heritage, art, music, and, of course, Italy’s world-famous cuisine. We have also established an Italian movie club to consistently provide Italian culture to the Chongqing public. Some of these activities were brought to Chongqing with the kind assistance of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Beijing.

We are happy to share with you an event that will be held in Pisa on December 16th, 2025, titled "Green Hospitality in China Innovations, Sustainability and Big Numbers".

With the help of Italian and Chinese professors, researchers and professionals, we will try to understand how the tourism sector is developing in China, with a particular focus on “green and sustainable hotels and destinations”, to try to anticipate trends that can be very useful for welcoming Chinese tourists in Tuscany and design visits and events.

The speakers will bring unique and firsthand examples and experiences to the Italian audience.
The event will be promoted by the Confucius Institute of Pisa, the Galileo Galilei Italian Institute and the Interdisciplinary Center on Sustainability and Climate in Sant'Anna School of Advances Studies of Pisa.
