We have participated in city-wide centralized online schooling for all of the children in Beijing over the last couple of months. Beijing's 'top' teachers, mostly from Chaoyang District, have gone on rotation to teach the children en mass. A very efficient and professional way to do education! Thankfully, physical schooling should resume for Grade 6 this coming Monday, and Grades 4 & 5 the following Monday (Middle School and High School also at varying times). Here is a pronunciation rule that I find difficult to fathom... While many people know that when there are 2 3rd tones together, the first 3rd tone turns into a 2nd tone, did you know that when the 2 3rd tones are followed by a 4th tone or a neutral tone in a phrase, in a pattern like 334 or 330, the 2nd third tone turns into a 2nd tone?! So the very common phrase of 好主意 hao3zhu3yi4 ('good idea') should actually be pronounced as hao3zhu2yi4. ARGH!!! I learned long ago to stop asking 'why' in my Chinese language learning ... 😄
