The official beginner Chinese exam (HSK 1) was just redesigned for July 1, 2026 β€” and the new version is genuinely friendly to beginners.

Here's what's actually on it πŸ‘‡

βœ… 300 words total β€” that's the whole vocabulary
βœ… No handwriting in the exam
βœ… No speaking in the exam (listening + reading only)
βœ… Audio played twice. Pinyin printed above every reading sentence
βœ… 3–6 months from absolute zero
βœ… The words are real life β€” ζ‰‹ζœΊ (phone), ε‡Ίη§Ÿθ½¦ (taxi), ι₯εΊ— (restaurant), εŒ»ι™’ (hospital)

So if "I should learn Chinese" has been sitting on your list for years… maybe 2026 is actually the year πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³

We just published the complete beginner guide β€” official sample questions with audio, free vocabulary list, and a 4-phase study plan from zero.

(We've taught HSK 1 in Beijing since 2008.)

Good news for them: the new HSK 1 just got easier to start with.

300 words. 4 tones. 4 months from zero to exam-ready. No
speaking or writing test at this level.

We just published the complete new 300-word list for 2026 β€”
with pinyin, English, example sentences, and a free PDF.

Built from the official 2025 syllabus by a Beijing school
that's been teaching beginners for 18 years.

HSK Level 3-All You Need To Know About HSK 3 15/05/2026

The new HSK 3 has FEWER questions than the old one. So why is everyone calling it harder? πŸ€”

From July 1, 2026, the most popular Chinese language exam in the world changes β€” dropping from 80 questions to 70. But here's the catch: the parts they removed were the easy ones.

What's actually changing:

πŸ“š Vocabulary: 600 β†’ 1,000 words (+67%)
✏️ Writing: no more word-rearrangement β€” you now compose sentences from a picture + a single word
🎧 Listening: True/False section removed (the one teachers always said you could pass by catching keywords)
πŸ—£οΈ HSK Speaking now mandatory β€” you can't register for the written test alone anymore

The "easier" item types are gone. What's left tests real Chinese, not test-taking technique.

If you're preparing right now:

βœ… Close to passing? Take the old version before July.
βœ… 3+ months out? Switch to new format prep β€” your existing study mostly still applies, and it's better preparation for HSK 4 anyway.
βœ… Already have an old HSK 3 certificate? It's still valid forever β€” no need to retake.

Full breakdown verified against the official 406-page syllabus + the December sample papers + a free Gap Finder tool that shows exactly how much of the old vocabulary carries over:

13/05/2026

Are you preparing for HSK 3 this year?

Then there's something you need to know: the vocabulary list has changed. A lot.

Starting July 1, 2026, the new HSK 3 exam will test 500 words instead of 300. And 255 of those words are completely new β€” they weren't on the old syllabus at any level.

That means if you're studying from a textbook or app published before late 2025, almost half of what you're memorizing is the wrong list.

We've been teaching HSK in Beijing since 2008, and this is the biggest single-level change we've seen in 18 years. So we built the complete new 500-word list β€” for free.

Pinyin, English, example sentences, and a filter to show only the 255 new words. No signup, no email needed.

Did you pass HSK 4 before 2026?

Only 55% of what you studied is on the
new HSK 4 word list. πŸ‘€

The new HSK 3.0 syllabus takes effect on
July 1 β€” and it's not the same test anymore:

πŸ“š 1,000 new words (a 67% jump from the
old version)
✏️ A new β‰₯80-character short essay
(the old test had no essay at all)
🎯 30 specific tasks, each requiring a
full paragraph β€” not just sentences
πŸ›οΈ 5 brand-new cultural tasks:
idioms, food culture, customs, landmarks,
historical figures

Same name. Different test.

We just put together the most complete
2026 HSK 4 guide β€” vocabulary, grammar,
the new test format, prep timeline, and
which top Chinese universities still
accept it πŸ‘‡

Passed HSK 4? You only know 55% of the new HSK 4.
We just finished cross-referencing the official old and new HSK word lists β€” every word, every level.
The results surprised us:
β†’ Every new level contains 30–47% vocabulary that didn't exist in the old system
β†’ Speaking is mandatory from Level 3 (the old HSK never tested this)
β†’ Writing a full essay starts at Level 4 (the old HSK never tested this either)
Your old certificate is still valid. Your study wasn't wasted.
But the new system measures differently β€” and most people have no idea where they actually stand.
We built a free tool that shows your exact coverage at every new level, based on your old HSK result.

91% of Heritage Chinese Families Face This. Does Yours? 25/03/2026

You ask your child how school was today β€” in Chinese.

They answer in English: "It was fine."

If this sounds like your family, you're not alone. According to research published in Demography, 91% of third-generation Chinese Americans speak only English at home. Chinese disappears 20 percentage points faster than Spanish by the third generation.

But here's what most parents don't know: your child's Chinese hasn't disappeared. It's dormant. Their brain still holds the vocabulary, the tonal patterns, the grammar β€” it just needs the right conditions to come back.

We spent months reviewing the research on passive bilingualism β€” why heritage children understand Chinese but refuse to speak it β€” and combined it with what we've learned from 18 years of teaching heritage Chinese kids in Beijing.

The result is a comprehensive guide covering:
β†’ The neuroscience of why understanding β‰  speaking
β†’ The exact exposure threshold your child needs (hint: weekend Chinese school alone isn't enough)
β†’ A Green/Yellow/Red diagnostic framework to assess where your child is
β†’ Age-specific strategies from birth through high school
β†’ A real case study of an 8-year-old from Australia who started speaking Chinese by Day 3

Plus two free interactive tools:
πŸ” A 30-second quiz to find out which zone your child is in
πŸ“Š An exposure calculator to see your family's actual numbers

Which zone do you think your child is in? Have you experienced the "understands but won't speak" phenomenon?

91% of Heritage Chinese Families Face This. Does Yours? Your child understands every word you say in Chinese β€” but replies in English. There's a scientific reason, and it's not what you think.
