Founded in 1936,Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture is the only architectural university in Beijing.
BUCEA now has 11 secondary schools and 3 basic teaching units, namely, School of Architecture and Urban Planning, School of Civil and Transportation Engineering, School of Environment and Energy Engineering, School of Electrical Engineering and Information Technique, School of Economics and Management Engineering, School of Geometrics and Urban Information, School of Mechanical-electronics and Automobile Engineering, School of Humanity and Law, School of Sciences, School of Continuing Education, School of International Education, Department of Computer Teaching and Network Information, Department of Ideological and Political Theories, and Department of Physical Education.
It has 8218 full-time internal students, 7018 of whom are undergraduates, 1142 postgraduate students. 55 overseas students are studying in School of Architecture and Urban Planning, School of Civil and Transportation Engineering, School of Environment and Energy Engineering, School of Economics and Management Engineering and School of Humanity and Law. With respect to its 31 undergraduate specialties (Architecture, Urban planning, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Design, Engineering of Conservation for Historic Buildings, Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Inorganic Nonmetallic Materials Engineering, Surveying and Mapping Engineering, Geographic Information Science, Building Environment and Energy Engineering, Water Science and Engineering, Environment Engineering, Environment Science, Energy and power engineering, Engineering Management, Mechanical Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Automation, Electrical Engineering and Automation, Computing Science and Technology, Building Electrical and Intelligent Technology, Information and Computing Science, Science and Technology of Electronic Information, Natural Science Pilot Class, Business Administration, Marketing, Public Affairs Administration, Legal Science, Social Work), three are MOE characteristic specialties (architecture, civil engineering, building environment and equipment engineering), seven characteristic specialties of Beijing (architecture, civil engineering, building environment and equipment engineering, water supply and drainage engineering, project management, surveying engineering, automation). First subject units and secondary subject units master degree authority are 12 and 55 respectively. There are 8 units of master professional degree authority. Of the first subjects, 5, i.e., architecture, civil engineering, surveying and mapping science, management science and engineering, urban planning and design are key subjects of Beijing.
At present, there are 1020 staff members in BUCEA, and 710 of them are full-time teachers. 588 teachers, or 83% of the total, have got master’s degree, and 281, or 40% have got doctor’s degree. Of the 410 teachers with senior professional technical titles, 108 are full professors.
Two CAS and one CAE academicians as well as professors, experts, government executives and corporate senior managers renowned home and abroad are employed as part-time and guest professors. BUCEA has 23 Beijing excellent teaching teams, academic innovation teams, management innovation teams, for example, Digital Urban and Architecture Simulation, Innovative Teams for researches on fundamental theories and key technologies in exploitation of urban underground space, Beijing Academic Innovation Group in Urban Stormwater System and Water Environmental Eco-Technologies.
BUCEA is composed of two campuses, Xicheng Campus and Daxing Campus. The former covers an area of 123,000 square meters, with ??202,000 square meters for building area. The latter occupies ??501,000 square meters, and 164,000 square meters of phase-one project have been completed. The university library has a collection of 1,348,000 printed books, 1,210,000 electronic books, 40 large electronic literature database. With China Architectural Library which is co-built with MOHURD, BUCEA boasts its architectural books that are the most complete in China.
BUCEA has remained to be teaching-centered and spared no efforts in improving education quality. It has received 20 awards for teaching and 8 of them topped the lists in the recent Beijing Teaching Achievement Awards. It has built 102 practice teaching bases in and out of the campus. In the past five years, students of BUCEA have won 336 provincial and ministerial level awards in scientific and cultural activities, such as the Challenge Cup, in Beijing and elsewhere in China.
Over the years, more than 50,000 and above excellent graduates of BUCEA have become backbones of the capital city’s construction system.
In the past five years, BUCEA has been in charge of over 1700 scientific research projects, of which 354 were at or above provincial and ministerial levels such as the State 863 and the State Scientific and Technological Support Projects. It has won 56 scientific and technological achievements prizes at or above provincial-ministerial levels, 8 of which were State Technological Invention Award and National Award for Technological Invention. For three consecutive years from 2010, BUCEA, as the chair unit, won second prize for national scientific and technological progress. Its technology services funds broke through a hundred million in the continuing seven years, which comes out on top among universities affiliated to Beijing. Now BUCEA has got MOE key laboratory for urban drainage systems and water environment, MOE engineering research center for representative buildings and ancient architecture database, SBSM key laboratory for surveying and mapping in modern cities, Beijing climate change research and personnel training base, etc., a total of 12 provincial key laboratories and engineering research centers, social science bases and the University Technology Park projects. It is one of the two universities identified as the first equity incentive pilot reform units of Zhongguancun National Innovation Demonstration Zone.
BUCEA takes active approaches in conducting substantive cooperation in high-level talents training, scientific research and other aspects. It has established long-term cooperation relationship with universities and colleges in America and Europe, and started 3+1 joint undergraduate program, 4+1 joint undergraduate and master program. It worked with AuburnUniversity in U.S. to operate Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run educational project (2 +2 mode) in water supply and drainage, as well as all-round cooperation in all the other majors. It furthered the cooperation with University of South Australia in Australia and E.P.L.E. Maximilien Perret in France in civil engineering master degree program and school-enterprise cooperation in energy sectors. Meanwhile, it launched students exchange activities and mutual credit recognition with University of Glamorgan in the U.K., North Daota State University in the U.S., Technische Universität Berlin in Germany, Russian St. Petersburg University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Università Politecnica delle Marche in Italy, Kyonggi University in South Korea, UNITEC Institute of Technology in New Zealand, and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. BUCEA also introduced foreign scholars, foreign experts, and actively participated in interactive development in disciplines, scientific research and talents training.

北京建筑工程学院是一所北京市属普通高等学校。学校的前身为创办于1936年的北平市立高级工业职业学校土木工程科。七十年变迁,五移校址,数易校名,历经高工建专、中专和大学三个发展阶段。1977年经国务院批准,正式升格为大学,定名为北京建筑工程学院。1982年被确定为国家首批学士学位授权高校。1985年经国务院学位办批准为硕士学位授予单位。1999年通过了教育部本科教学工作合格评价。2002年被北京市教委确定为城市规划、建设、管理人才培养基地。2006年通过教育部本科教学工作水平评估。2007年在北京高校党建和思想政治工作评估中被评为优秀。
学校现设有10院3部,即建筑与城市规划学院、土木与交通工程学院、环境与能源工程学院、电气与信息工程学院、经济与管理工程学院、测绘与城市空间信息学院、机电与汽车工程学院、文法学院、理学院、继续教育学院、计算机教学与网络信息部、体育部和思想政治理论课教研部。目前全校共有29个全日制本科专业,其中教育部特色专业3个——建筑学、土木工程、建筑环境与设备工程;北京市特色专业7个——建筑学、土木工程、建筑环境与设备工程、给水排水工程、工程管理、测绘工程、自动化。我校现有10个省部级科研基地;学校共有12个一级学科硕士点、6个工程硕士专业学位授予领域、3个硕士专业学位授予类别和11个北京市重点学科。
学校现有教职工993人,专任教师695人,其中,拥有硕士博士学位的占73.81%。拥有兼职博士生导师20人,北京市教学名师5名、学术创新人才4名、高层次人才2名,市级中青年骨干教师69名。同时,学校积极整合资源,加强团队建设,建成6个市级优秀教学团队、15个市级学术创新团队和1个市级管理创新团队。

学校现有各级各类在校生1万余人。毕业生就业率高,受到用人单位好评,毕业生主要就业于北京市各级政府所属规划、建设、管理部门和建筑设计研究院(所)及建筑、市政等企业,大多已成为技术骨干和管理骨干,为国家及首都城市规划、建设、管理做出了重要贡献。校友中涌现出了被称为“当代鲁班”的李瑞环主席,被誉为“时代先锋”的曹广辉,建筑大师罗玲、胡越、刘桂生等一大批优秀人才。前门地区保护与整治利用规划、北京历史文化名城保护、北京地区总体规划方案、首都机场改扩建工程、京津塘高速公路、京沈高速公路等诸多交通工程项目,中央电视塔、毛主席纪念堂、国家图书馆、国家博物馆、国家大剧院,2008年奥运会北京各主要场馆等众多工程项目都凝聚了我校教师和校友的心血。
我校依托自身的学科专业优势,积极开展围绕首都城乡建设领域的应用技术研究,促进产学研结合。近五年来,我校主持完成各类科研项目1600余项,其中国家863、国家重大水专项、国家科技支撑、国家自然科学基金和国家社会科学基金等国家级、省部级以上科研项目300余项;获省部级以上科技成果奖励50余项,其中国家级科技奖励7项;科技服务经费连续六年过亿,连续七年位居市属市管高校前列,学校正在成为服务首都城市化的人才培养基地、科技服务基地。
学校坚持开放办学,广泛开展国际教育交流与合作。目前已与美国、法国、英国等22个国家和地区的34所高校建立了校际交流与合作关系,并与澳大利亚南澳大学联合培养土木工程领域工程硕士,与英国格拉摩根大学合作开展本科层次的3+1的联合培养项目,与法国佩雷集团联合建立了北京建筑工程学院中法能源培训中心。学校经北京市教育委员会批准于2004年招收外国留学生。
为适应首都高等教育跨越式发展和首都城市建设的需要,从2001年开始,学校稳步增设服务于城市规划、建设、管理服务的学科专业,逐步扩大了招生规模。学校坚持“立足首都,面向全国,依托建筑业,服务城市化”的办学服务面向定位,坚持服务于首都城市规划、建设和管理。学校已发展成为以工为主,理、工、管、法、艺、农等学科专业相互支撑、协调发展、特色鲜明的多学科大学和服务首都城市规划、建设、管理的人才培养基地和科技服务基地。
目前,学校分为西城校区与大兴校区两个校区。西城校区占地11.8万平方米,校舍建筑面积16万平方米;大兴校区已于2011年9月份正式启用,标志着学校迈入了新的发展阶段。校区建设采取统筹规划、分布实施的原则,一期建筑面积16万平方米,目前已全部建成,二期14万平方米即将动工建设。
学校党委以科学发展观为指导,将进一步抢抓机遇,根据“三个北京”和世界城市建设的要求,加快建设特色鲜明的高水平建筑大学的步伐,经过10年左右的建设,使学校的整体办学水平居全国建筑类院校和北京市属高校先进行列。
