芭芭拉首先引用了肯·布鲁夏（Ken Bruscia）对研究的定义。我们在此译成中文：研究是“一个系统的、自我监督的调查，它导向新的发现和洞察。这个过程被记录下来并传播，对现有的知识或实践做出贡献或革新。”

芭芭拉说：“音乐治疗师希望成为好的临床工作者，更好的帮助来访者或者病人，我们想做到能力范围内所能达到的最佳。 那么更高层次上的，如果你想知道治疗的效果、不断的改善临床实践，就是需要做研究。这包括我们每个人的执业水平，也包括一个国家的行业整体水平。我们能帮助公众在更高的层次上更多的了解音乐治疗。“

Barbara said, "A higher level of being able to know (what works and what doesn't) is to do research, to find out what is working, in that way we can really enhance our practice-our own personal practice, but also the practice in our country. We can help people understand more about music therapy in a larger level."

Barbara Wheeler|Why is learning research important for music therapist?

Serendipity Music Therapy (Beijing) is proud to announce our latest 31 hours of online training, Music Therapy Research: Quantitative and Qualitative Methods. The training will be taught by Dr. Barbara Wheeler. It is specifically designed to meet the learning needs of the professionals who practice in China, or those from other countries and regions that music therapy research is still underdeveloped. A guest lecture will be taught by Dr. Xi Jing Chen, who is a prominent music therapy researcher in China. Lab classes are included for practicing the foundational skills for proposing a study.
