Mark your calendar for "The Middle Ages in Our World," an international lecture series featuring Princeton University Professor and Guggenheim Fellow D. Vance Smith, presented by the Department of English, PKU's School of Foreign Languages.
This three-part series explores how medieval literature and thought continue to inhabit our intellectual, political, and material worlds. Bringing texts into conversation with psychoanalysis, urban studies, and postcolonial theory, the lectures examine the structures, crises, and latent possibilities of our own time.
The discussions draw broadly on Professor Smith's recent book, Atlas's Bones: The African Foundations of Europe (University of Chicago Press), which reimagines global intellectual history and challenges traditional Eurocentric narratives by examining cross-cultural connections.
