Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome two artists from the Rangtang Institute of Intangible Cultural Heritage, who shared with us their inspiring stories and introduced the traditional art of thangka painting. Students from Years 7 to 9 participating in the Art Olympiad, along with our Year 10 and Year 12 art students, took part in this special session. Following the talk, students engaged in a one-hour hands-on thangka experience workshop, where they created their very first thangka artworks.πΌοΈποΈ
What made the session particularly meaningful was not only the opportunity to learn about this intricate art form and its techniques, but also the powerful stories behind it.π‘β€οΈ The artists shared how thangka painting has transformed lives in their community. Through learning this traditional craft, young people from remote and isolated villages have been able to step beyond their surroundings, explore wider opportunities, support their families, and sustain a livelihood. π¨π―οΈ
More importantly, thangka has become a bridge between tradition and the modern worldβenabling the younger generation to preserve, innovate, and actively contribute to the transmission of Tibetan culture. It was a truly enriching experience that highlighted how art can empower individuals and help communities thrive, even in the face of hardship.π±β¨

ποΈ Year 3 have completed their very first residential trip β and they were brilliant. π Our youngest adventurers spent three days and two nights discovering Beijing's backyard in the Northern Hills. They hiked a stunning waterside section of the Great Wall, made dumplings from scratch, tried traditional shanshui painting and tie dye, and even learned basic Kung fu moves at Starry Moon Farm.
There was a pyjama party and plenty of teamwork on the eco farm β planting vegetables and baking bread together. For many, this was their first night away from home, and the courage, kindness and growing confidence they showed made us incredibly proud. Here's to many more adventures ahead. π§³β¨

The British Schools of Beijing (Shunyi & Sanlitun) were proud to attend the 2026 American Citizens Fair at the US Embassy on Sunday 31 May 2026.ππ€
With nearly 1,200 people coming together, it was a fantastic celebration of the American community in Beijing β and the many organisations that support families living here.
Our team loved hosting crafts and games for children, reconnecting with our current students, and meeting so many new families. Events like this remind us how international and connected our BSB community truly is.πβ€οΈ
