Meet our director forThe Advisors to Giuseppe Conte, 2020, Domenic Caturello!

Dom is a sophomore at Harvard College from Stoneham, Massachusetts. He is passionate about international affairs and foreign language and is currently studying Mandarin and Italian. Outside class, he takes part in Harvard’s Model UN conferences and Harvard Undergraduate Bridge Club. Domenic has been involved in MUN for several years- through high school and now into college- and is thrilled for this conference soon to unfold!

Meet our director for the South Korean Women's Presidential Advisory Board, Andrew Kim!

Andrew is currently a sophomore at Harvard College studying economics and philosophy, and he is thrilled to be directing a committee in HMUN China this year!

Besides being a member of the traveling Model UN team at Harvard and helping staff HMUN and HNMUN, Andrew enjoys teaching English to Vietnamese immigrants in the Dorchester area as Co-Director of PBHA’ s PEN ESL program. He is very interested in exploring the cultural similarities between Korea and China, and is excited to hear the delegates’ unique perspectives!

Meet our director for The Advisors to the Guangxu Emperor, 1898, Katherine Lempres!

Katherine is a junior at Harvard College studying European History & Literature with a secondary in Classics. This will be her second year directing at HMUN China, and she is so excited to return! Model UN has consumed her life at Harvard, and it's truly the activity she loves the most. She is the Under-Secretary-General of the Specialized Agencies at HNMUN, Harvard's MUN conference for college students. She has also served on leadership for our competitive MUN team in the past and is currently Crisis Director at HMUN Boston.

Beyond MUN, she is very involved with WHRB, Harvard's radio station, and loves trying new restaurants with her friends. She is looking forward to meeting you all!

Meet our director of the Historical Security Council, 1969, Brendan Chapuis!

Brendan is a sophomore at Harvard College studying government, and is from Connecticut. He is considering pursuing a career in public policy or diplomacy. Brendan is especially passionate about climate policy, and plans to make that a focus of his career.

Besides government, Brendan also will be studying Chinese, and is excited to have the opportunity to practice his language skills during his stay in China as a director at HMUN China. As a member of Harvard's International Relations Council, Brendan will also be directing a committee at the Boston HNMUN conference for college students and is a business director for the Boston HMUN conference for high school students. He also competes in Model UN conferences at other colleges as a member of the Intercollegiate Model UN team.

Besides doing Model UN, Brendan is involved with other activities on campus. As a photographer for the Crimson, Harvard's school newspaper, Brendan primarily does sports and news photography. Photography is one of Brendan’s primary hobbies, and he also enjoys taking pictures when traveling with family and friends.

Meet our director for the Organization of American States, Kiara Gomez!

Kiara is a sophomore at Harvard College planning to study Government and/or Social Anthropology. She grew up in Fullerton, California thinking anything below 65 degrees was cold and has been loathing the Cambridge weather ever since she got here. She realized she wanted to go into politics through Mock Trial in high school where she learned to be confident in her speaking abilities. She played percussion for 8 years and really misses playing her favorite instrument, the marimba.

This past year, Kiara assistant directed for the Special, Political, and Decolonization Committee at HMUN and for Administration at HNMUN. This year she is directing for Administration at HNMUN again and for HMUN China and HNMUN Latin America. She also helps a Harvard staff member prepare for the citizenship test through the Citizenship Tutoring program and is in the Community Action Committee at the Institute of Politics. Kiara works at a restaurant in Harvard Square, and when she is not doing any of the above, can usually be found trying to convince herself to stop watching Netflix to do her readings or mustering up the courage to ask people if she can pet their dogs.

Some of Kiara’s passions include writing and travel, so she cannot wait until she’s finally in China this upcoming spring with the staff and delegates. Model United Nations has quickly become her favorite thing she does at Harvard, and she is so happy that she gets to help all of you see how much fun it can be!

Meet our director for the International Organization for Migration, Illan RM Freudman

Illan is a sophomore planning on a joint concentration in mathematics and philosophy, with the intention of going into investment banking after college. He grew up surrounded by diversity in downtown Toronto, sparking his interest in the intersection and cooperation of different cultures. This led him to join his high school’s model United Nations team and become the head delegate.

While working as an assistant director in the UNHCR at HNMUN last year, Illan discovered how rewarding it is to chair the committees that he enjoyed so much in high school. He chose to continue discussing migration because he believes the current refugee crises around the world, such as the ongoing ones in Myanmar and Northern Africa, are among the most pressing problems in the world today. Illan is extremely excited to discuss all of the dimensions of these crises at conference. In his free time, Illan enjoys running and reading about contemporary ethical dilemmas.

Meet our director for the Global Technology Summit, Yashvardhan Bardoloi!

Yash is a Junior at the College studying Applied Math and Economics, with a possible Secondary in Government or in Computer Science. He is deeply interested in a range of subjects, particularly as they pertain to questions around economics, politics, finance and technology. At Harvard, he is an active member of the Parliamentary Debate team and has been part of a number of MUN conferences. He was also a Teaching Fellow for Intermediate Microeconomics, and also has a professional interest in the subject of this committee: having worked in Internet & Technology Research at Goldman Sachs the preceding summer.

In his free time, Yash tries to make the most of the excellent sense of community and broad range of activities at Harvard—be it at debate socials, squash games, dance shows, foosball competitions, and other exciting happenings on campus. He also enjoys scenic biking/walking explorations around Cambridge and Boston, reading books and listening to podcasts, and meditating.

Meet our Director for the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Kalos Chu!

Kalos is a sophomore at Harvard College studying either English, Sociology, or Psychology (the answer depends on the time of day). Originally from San Diego, California, Kalos is a proud believer that Southern California—with its unparalleled climate, stunning beaches, and, of course, Disneyland—is the best region in the world. Because of the large portion of his childhood spent in China, he ranks his hometown of Chongqing as a close second.

Kalos has been involved in Model UN since 7th grade, and hopes to utilize his seven years of experience toward bettering the delegate experience. He credits his years in MUN for not only the communication and diplomacy skills he holds so dear, but also for the friends and memories that he holds even dearer. Aside from Model UN, Kalos is a writer for The Harvard Crimson, a board member for the Chinese Students Association, and a member of the Honor Council; he also enjoys eating large quantities of sushi, reading teen romance novels, and listening to Broadway musicals.

Meet our Director for the Commission on Population and Development, Piper Winkler!

Piper is a Harvard junior studying social theory, urban planning, and comparative literature. In her spare time, she runs an outreach program at a local homeless shelter, broadcasts punk rock and Metropolitan Opera performances (never simultaneously) on Harvard's student-run radio station, and reads as much as possible about affordable housing policy and urban design.

A succession of unrelated fun facts: she's read everything by Jhumpa Lahiri (and will continue to do so), she keeps track of time by the New York Times daily crossword, and her current favorite album is Be the Cowboy (Mitski, 2018). She is thrilled to be part of the HMUN China staff family and equally excited to hear delegates' thoughtful contributions to the urgent and divisive debate on what constitutes inclusive and sustainable urban development.

Meet our director for the Commission on the Status of Women, Nia Fernandes!

Nia is a sophomore at Harvard College majoring in Psychology and Statistics. She loves art, music, doing Taekwondo, and watching YouTube videos. Her favorite pastime is teaching, so she enjoys tutoring high schoolers every week in Boston, MA. She is also very involved with the South Asian Association, serving as a representative and alumni outreach chairman.

Nia is currently the Vice President of Model Security Council and loves all things MUN! Before college, she had no prior experience with MUN, but she decided to be an Assistant Director for Administration and serve as an Assistant Director for the committee of Commission on the Status of Women. She fell in love with the purpose of MUN and how it brought together students from all around the world to try and solve problems everyone was passionate about. Nia realized how close everyone became by the end of conference and knew she wanted to become more involved. Currently, she is the Director of Administration for HMUN and is very excited to be leading a committee at HMUN China. Her passion for MUN stems from her love for different cultures and world issues. Every time she attends a MUN event, she leaves with more knowledge, fulfillment, and fun memories.

Nia cannot wait to experience all of these things in China! She is looking forward to meeting the delegates, having an amazing conference, and embracing the culture and lifestyle in China!
