MOCK THESIS PROPOSAL DEFENSE

In its commitment to further deepen CUPB’s culture of innovative academic skills acquisition, the International Students’ Academic Innovation Platform, ISAIP, organized a 1-Day Mock Proposal Defense to prepare Masters’ students for the academic ritual of Thesis Proposal Defense. Held on Wednesday 13th January, 2021, the event was hosted on the Tencent meeting platform with sixteen Masters’ students (from Petroleum Engineering and Geological Sciences) presenting their research proposal while Doctorate candidates (eight of them) mentored the proceedings. The presentations were in two sessions of eight students per group. Students from within and outside China participated as audience and were given an opportunity to ask question bordering the presentation. In past years, the event was hosted on campus with this been the first virtual trial defense, and it was indeed a successful event. The event was concluded with remarks, suggestions and recommendations from the mentoring doctorate students who advised the presenters on best ways to ace ‘real-time’ thesis defense. Certificates of participation will be issued to participants.

ISAIP MATLAB WORKSHOP NEWS

In furtherance of its core objective of developing requisite research skills for innovative academic excellence in CUPB, ISAIP organized a 2-Day Workshop on Developing MATLAB Skills. The Workshop which took place from the 8th to 9th of December on the Tencent platform witnessed ample turnout of attendees from across the world. Inacio de Oliveira, a doctorate candidate who doubles as the President of ISAIP introduced the Fundamentals of MATLAB while David Cova (also a doctorate scholar) presented ‘MATLAB and Numerical Methods.’ Subsequent workshops to further impact academic excellence are scheduled to take place in the near future. Details will be communicated in due time.

The academic year has already started, as usual, the CIE in partnership with ISAIP has organized the official opening day, the "Open Day Ceremony", and this year would be no different, despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

Therefore, ISAIP is pleased to announce the "Open Day Ceremony" to be held tomorrow, November 9th, from 5:15 pm to 6:15 pm (Beijing time), on the Tencent Meeting platform (VooV for mobile phone).

ISAIP wishes all CUPB students and the general public a merry Christmas.

In commemoration of a successful year 2019 filled with thrilling innovative activities, ISAIP hosted its end of year party on Saturday 21st December 2019. The highly anticipated event commenced at about 6.45pm and lived up to expectations. In pomp and pageantry looks, attendees arrived promptly and were serenaded with soft melodies from the background. A brief speech by the president marked the start of the party. The event celebrated members who had their birthdays in November and December to which a cake was cut to wholly celebrate all members. Entertaining games were played and good music, hit after hit, kept the heels of everyone present busy. Good times are fun but run fast and the party was concluded at about 10pm with exchanges of cheers and pleasantries in anticipation of a better year 2020.
