🎊UNESCO INRULED and Partners Successfully Hold Workshop on AI Empowerment for Malaysian Rural School Teachers

From 8 to 10 July 2026, the Workshop on AI Empowerment for Malaysian Rural School Teachers was successfully held in Penang, Malaysia. The workshop was jointly organised by the UNESCO International Research and Training Centre for Rural Education (INRULED), the SEAMEO Regional Centre for Education in Science and Mathematics (SEAMEO RECSAM), the Educational Resources and Technology Division of the Ministry of Education Malaysia (BSTP), and the UNESCO Chair on Artificial Intelligence in Education at Beijing Normal University. The workshop aimed to enhance rural teachers’ comprehensive capacity to integrate artificial intelligence into teaching and learning, and to promote equitable and quality STEM and AI education opportunities for rural students.

📣China-Southeast Asia TVET Management Capacity Building Workshop Successfully Concluded

On June 23-24, the China-Southeast Asia Capacity Development Workshop themed on “Transforming TVET and Skills Ecosystem for the Digital Era” was successfully held in Beijing. The workshop is organised by the UNESCO International Research and Training Centre for Rural Education (INRULED), ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), and the SEAMEO Regional Centre for Technical Education Development (SEAMEO-TED), co-organised by the UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia (UNESCO Beijing), China Pocy Group, and China-ASEAN Specialised Committee for Education Cooperation and Development of the China-Association for Non-Government Education, and receives support from Chengdu Global Skills Academy and China Craft Valley·Beijing Caofeidian International Vocational Education Town.

Prof. Zhou Zuoyu, Director of UNESCO INRULED Attended the 2026 World Digital Education Conference

From May 11 to 13, 2026, the 2026 World Digital Education Conference, themed “AI+Education: Transformation, Development, Governance,” was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Co-hosted by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government. Prof. Zhou Zuoyu, Vice Chair of the University Council of Beijing Normal University and Director of the UNESCO International Research and Training Centre for Rural Education (INRULED), was invited to attend the conference.

✔️INRULED Attended the 2025 SEAMEO Centres Policy Research Network Summit in Brunei

From 3rd to 4th July, Dr. Qi Xinjian, and Ms. Liu Ruixi, Programme Coordinator of the UNESCO International Research and Training Centre for Rural Education (INRULED), attended the 2025 Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Centres Policy Research Network (CPRN) Summit in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei.

During the Summit, Dr. Qi Xinjian and Ms. Liu Ruixi introduced INRULED's Mid-term Strategy (2024-2029) and highlighted the research framework of the upcoming Global Report on Education for Rural Sustainable Development, calling on relevant organizations and experts to help identify key challenges and best practices related to education for sustainable rural development.

☑️China-Southeast Asia Capacity Building Workshop Concludes with Strong Commitments to Enhance Skills Development for Sustainable Rural Development

The China-Southeast Asia Capacity Building Workshop (ASEAN-China TVET Policymakers Workshop) on Transforming Learning for Sustainable Rural Development successfully concluded its five-day programme from June 15-19, marking a significant step forward in regional cooperation for skills development for rural transformation.

The workshop was jointly organised by the UNESCO International Research and Training Centre for Rural Education (INRULED), the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), the SEAMEO Regional Centre for Technical Education Development (SEAMEO TED), and the UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia (UNESCO Beijing).

It also received guidance and support from Beijing Normal University, China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), the Foreign Economic Cooperation Center of China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, with additional support from the China-ASEAN Specialized Committee for Education Cooperation and Development of the China Non-Government Education Association, China Agricultural University, and German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ).
