🏺 Do You Know the Secret of the Ancient Bronze Water Clock in the National Museum? 🤔🏛️
What is the Bronze Water Clock?
The Bronze Water Clock is an ancient instrument in China that uses a constant flow of water to calculate time.
The Purpose of the Bronze Water Clock:
The Bronze Water Clockr consists of four copper pots, the sun pot, the moon pot, the star pot, and the receiving pot. When in use, the water from the sun pot drips into the lower moon pot at a constant flow rate, and the water from the moon pot drips into the star pot, which has a small hole in the upper part, so that if the moon pot drips more water, the excess will flow out from here, keeping the amount of water in the star pot at a constant level, so that it can drip evenly to the receiving pot. As the water in the receiving kettle gradually increased, the pontoon boat lifted the wooden arrow and slowly rose. By checking the tip of the wooden arrow against the scale on the brass meter gauge, you can tell what time it was.
More Than Just a Timekeeper:
Beyond its utilitarian purpose, the Bronze Water Clock is a masterpiece of art. Its elaborate decorations and inscriptions offer a window into the artistic expression and cultural values of the time. It stands as a proud symbol of the aesthetic and intellectual prowess of ancient China.
